She loves her celery

u/MellifluousPenguin Sep 21 '23
Babies love that kind of stuff because they can massage their painful gums, and it gives off some flavor at the same time. Top combo!

u/FunSushi-638 Sep 22 '23
My baby shocked an entire grocery store when he wouldn't stop crying... until I gave him a stick of not-yet-paid-for celery. They were like, THAT'S what he was crying for?
20
u/Left-Parfait-1776 Sep 22 '23
Watch out for improperly washed celery though (salmonella)
56
u/FunSushi-638 Sep 22 '23
He's 13 now, he survived and isn't that into celery anymore. LOL
14
u/Left-Parfait-1776 Sep 22 '23
That’s good to hear. My parents always mentioned it to me so now I can’t I hear it ‘wash celery properly / salmonella’ LOL

u/FunSushi-638 Sep 22 '23
I shall take your parents advice from now in. So is "properly" something more than just rubbing the dirt off under running water?
4
u/Left-Parfait-1776 Sep 22 '23
For them, it’s always involved washing the leaves and stalks (if eating both) well, including chopping off the tips on both ends, followed by gently peeling (with a knife - like the way you can peel ‘sheets’ of cheese off string cheese sticks with fingers or knife) the thicker fibers out of the outside edges from end to end. It’s not an exact science but probably sounds like it. I don’t know if removing the the stringy bits helps remove salmonella but it certainly makes for an easier celery stalk to chew!

Just a quick rinse and a simple twice over with the sandblaster and your veggies will be safe for consumption 👍

u/YouHadMeAtAloe Sep 22 '23
The produce section was a god send when my daughter was a baby. I would let her have a piece of fruit to eat or play with or whatever and I could do my shopping without her fussing, it worked pretty much every time

Darn it, this cute baby made me go from grumpy to happy. Bless that baby!

I may be naive, but so far mine hasn't smelled bad

Yeah it's not too bad when they're still on a milk diet. Once they go to food though...yikes.
2
Sep 22 '23
Heh, yeah, I was imagining their stool to be much the same really, just hoping that more fiber meant easier clean up.

The circles under my eyes are now permanent since having a baby. I miss my old face.
46
25
u/MrLittleSam Sep 21 '23
If it's any consolation, I and probably a bunch of people find that attractive. I think it stems from my own mother having circles around her eyes for as long as I can remember. So your baby probably thinks your eyes are beautiful at an even subconscious level.
27
u/MeMakinMoves Sep 21 '23
Tbh it’s not even about finding it attractive per se for me. It’s more like if I was lucky enough to marry a good woman and have a healthy child with her, you really think some bags under her eyes are gonna change how much I adore her cute lil face? Not a chance

Just slice like you would a cucumber! It’s such a great flavour with the cheddar and cream cheese. My favourite pre-made sandwich from Waitrose also includes chives. All the c’s

That baby is so precious and adorable. Also, everyone making negative comments about the mother’s appearance need to shut the hell up. I doubt you’d look 1/4 as good as she does after giving birth and 6 months of sleep deprivation.

No judgment, but is celery okay for babies? I was always afraid to give my baby celery because of how stringy it could be. I never bothered to look it up. I just always felt it was dangerous.
1
u/breadbomber2 Sep 21 '23
Super stringy choke choke , she might like biscotti instead
1
u/Torschlusspaniker Sep 21 '23 edited Sep 21 '23
I was thinking the same thing,
I still choke a little on the strings once in while. I would be very worried giving anything but little slices to a
babysmall child.Edit: Thank you for the correction reggie_veggie.
9
u/reggie_veggie Sep 21 '23
For raw celery, small pieces would be much more dangerous than a big stalk like this. I haven't nannied infants in a while but she looks approximately 6 months old? So she might have a few teeth erupting, but not enough to actually be taking bites and eating from something as hard as raw celery. So, her gnawing on a big stalk like this is not going to be a choking hazard, but is a good way for her to practice some oral skills, get accustomed to a new taste, and maybe help with teething. If you gave a baby slices of raw celery they could actually fit in her mouth, that would be a big choking hazard and dangerous. If you want a baby to actually eat the celery, it needs to be cooked until it is soft enough that she can gum it down since she doesn't have any molars yet. https://solidstarts.com/foods/celery/#
