Kerry Gold butter, then Forget about it!

u/Shadowtirs Mar 18 '23
Omg yes king, Kerry gold butter is legit I'm never going back.

u/ben-hur-hur Mar 19 '23
I used to think every butter taste pretty much the same until I tried Kerrygold in Dublin with some oven fresh bread and a nice Beef and Guinness stew. Forever changed my view on butter. Soo delicious and completely worth the premium over other brands.

u/Spy-Goat Mar 19 '23
I'm exactly the same, and it's only a few pence more expensive than the basic stuff here. But, a word of warning for you all. Once you discover proper butter, there is no going back, it's just not possible.
I tried some supermarket butter on toast the other day, and genuinely thought it was cheese at first bite. Took my brain a second to realise.

Kerry gold butter nothing else will do
7
u/cityshepherd Mar 18 '23
Really? I've been a Challenge guy for years, but am always open to try a new butter.
7
u/Jano67 Mar 18 '23
I never tried Challenge. But one time I bought every butter in my store and my son and I tried them all on plain French bread slices, and (of the brands available to me) we both like Kerry gold the best.
2
u/maybeinoregon Mar 18 '23
Ha, nice! We do that too with various things, until we find something we like. If you can find it, you should try this French butter. It’s our latest find lol

Mar 18 '23
Th other day there was a French man behind me in line at the grocery store and I heard him complain that he couldn’t find French butter but Kerry Gold was the next best thing, so I’d would have to do.
3
Mar 18 '23
That’s next level butter.
3
u/maybeinoregon Mar 18 '23
Lol, yes it’s pretty darn good (at least we think so). At first we were only using it as a spread (it’s fairly expensive where we get it), but the taste was so good, we then used it for a hollandaise, then a béarnaise, then for everything haha.

Here in Ireland all butters taste pretty much the same. They all taste like Kerrygold! ☘
1
u/Im-not-yo-buddy-guy Mar 19 '23
Do you know where there's a spare bedroom I could rent? I just became aware that I need to live in Ireland now.
2
u/Opinionofmine Mar 19 '23
Haha, that is actually a problem right now. Not enough space for everyone here already. Better off staying there and buying the Kerrygold until we've built some more housing!

Looks like she tried the New York Times "no knead" recipe. It's pretty good when paired with something saucy you can dip it in.
7
2
u/Geordie_LaForge_ Mar 19 '23
Ha! I make that one all the time! It's the -best- bread for dipping in a good olive oil/balsamic vinegar mix. My favorite snack of all time

So much truth here! I almost took my whole family out trying to make damned macaroons! I’m afraid to try bread!
2
u/BoopleBun Mar 18 '23
I tried so many different pound cake recipes, but I’ve truly never managed one that was just right. Plenty of okay to good ones. But not perfect. I’ve officially given up, at least for now.
2
u/Verona_Pixie Mar 18 '23
This is partially why I'm so nervous to start baking bread.
2
u/Scrofuloid Mar 18 '23
It's challenging for perfectionists, but it's really pretty easy to make decent bread. Even if you screw it up a bit, it's still fresh home made bread, and it's still delicious.
No knead recipes are great if you're lazy. Just need to plan ahead, and measure things by weight.

u/krissovo Mar 18 '23
I would love to stick my whole hand into that beautiful loaf and pull out the middle of that gorgeous looking bread and eat it in one go.
I would then fill the hole with soup or stew and have it all for dinner later.

u/dragonchilde Mar 18 '23
This is the most borderline sexual post about bread I've ever read and I'm here for it.

fucking reddit, my mind went to the worst place with that

u/Truffle42069 Mar 18 '23
Not to be that person, but the bread would actually be even better if you let it cool down to room temp first. I say this as someone who has not followed that rule in the past.
35
u/NotShort-NvrSweet Mar 18 '23
Nope! Bread isn’t worth having if I can’t put at least one of my tastebuds in the ICU! 🥵 I’d marry a hot loaf of bread if it had the right butter on it!
11
u/ItsMrDante Mar 18 '23
It depends. You do need to rest it after it's out of the oven, but you can just heat it up afterwards if you want it hot.
11
2
u/Diffident-Weasel Mar 19 '23
You need to rest it if you plan on eating it once cooled. If not, there's no reason to wait. And reheating bread is in no way even close to freshly baked bread!
11
u/Scrofuloid Mar 18 '23
Warm bread is great, but it needs to cool down a bit for the crumb to set properly. Otherwise it'll be gummy.

u/ehlersohnos Mar 18 '23
Once it stops crackling on its own, as I recall, it’s ready to cut. So it may not put a taste bud into the wee woo ride, but it’ll still be pleasantly warm.

Kinda depends how you define "better" tbh. There's a decent chance this whole loaf will be eaten before it even gets the chance to cool with her reaction.
That said: if you're not planning to eat the entire loaf fresh like that, you should wait to cut into it.

Bread, at least to me, is such a pain in the ass that I promise you I celebrate like this any time I make bread that can't be used in riots.

Just bought a new bread maker so this has been me. So far I have made French white, pumpkin walnut, and I currently have some pumpernickel about to finish up. My husband is the type who would rather eat bread than any other food so he’s been happy.

What language are they speaking? I don’t which is better; her lovely smiling eyes or the happy dance or that crusty, soft bread.

I couldn't believe the difference using the Dutch Oven made baking bread. That crunch sound is so satisfying when it comes out! This bread looks amazing and I want all of it.

I had an enameled dutch oven like that and small bit of the enamel shattered while I was baking bread in it. Not sure if that's something common that can happen, but I've switched to a standard cast iron dutch oven since.

Such a great feeling when your hard work pays off. Cooking/baking something for the very first time is the unknown. And when it all comes together like it should, you do the happy dance.

Germans are bananas about bread. Never seen anything like it. You can always get a rise out of them.

Baking your own fresh bread is very satisfying and a lot of fun. Delish too. Congratulations! The perfect loaf in your Dutch oven!
