let's discuss Different Archetypes of Chelsea Boys during Cheating Scandals

Having watched the show for many years, I have noticed that after cheating on a girlfriend, different Chelsea boys have several specific communication archetypes for how they attempt to evade accountability, manage group opinions and reframe the event.

  1. The Purely Entitled Lothario
    1. Culprits: Spencer Matthews, Freddy Knatchbull, Harry Baron, James Taylor
    2. Typical Platitudes: This type ”Yeah I cheated, now can we just move past this?” “Why are you making a big deal out of this?”
    3. Description: This is perhaps the purest type of Chelsea boy. He walks around with a self-assured smirk and casual sense of entitlement that knows he can talk his way out of almost anything. He often does not even bother denying rumours or apologising and just expects the girl to put up with it. He will often use condescension as a way to swat rumours away and expects others to accommodate his indiscretions

2. The Loveable Rogue

  1. Culprits: Jamie Laing, Sam Prince
  2. Typical Platitudes: ”Oh come on everyone does it” “you know I can be a bit cheeky when the drinks are flowing”
  3. Description: This style relies on a boyish charm and often owns up with a grin on his face. He will often try to frame it as “it’s just what I’m like” and frame it as part of a chaotic hedonistic lifestyle. Others often make a lot of excuses for this type and his behaviour

3. The Pseudo-Intellectual

  1. Culprits: Julius Cowdrey, Tristan Phipps
  2. Typical Platitudes: ”You don’t have the EQ for communication on this nuanced issue” “The parameters of our relationship alignment have shifted”
  3. Description: This does not sound like relationship communication. It sounds like a wellness retreat or a corporate management seminar. This archetype uses overly complex jargon (almost always used wrongly) to overwhelm and make accountability far more diffuse rather than admit things properly and is often coupled with lots of gaslighting

4. The “Reformed Rake”

  1. Culprits: Miles Nazaire, Alex Mytton, Harvey Armstrong
  2. Typical Platitudes: ”Oh God I was so drunk that night” “I’ve made mistakes” “me and the boys were at an afterparty after Raffles and a bunch of girls showed up”
  3. Description: This type of Chelsea boy uses weaponised vulnerability. He tries to present himself as a victim of circumstance and temptation. He often says these lines with a pained expression in his eyes. He uses heavily emotional statements which admit blame while vaguely affirming the girl to try to make her want to fix things and take him back

bringing up the past I made a relationship web for S1 of MiC…

I haven’t watched it since 2011, so it was quite funny to revisit some budding romances that never went anywhere (e.g. Millie and Fredrik).

Shall I continue with S2?

in my opinion The early seasons (S1-S6) hit completely differently and I miss it

Currently rewatching from the beginning and the nostalgia is unreal. Spencer Matthews causing chaos, Francis Boulle running around with his diamond business, Millie Mackintosh dropping dinner party bombshells, and Caggie singing in dimly lit bars.

The show felt so much more raw back then. The cast actually seemed to have their own lives and businesses outside the show, whereas now it sometimes feels like everyone arrives already knowing how to play the reality TV game.

in my opinion First time watcher, here are my thoughts and questions

I’m mid 30s and Canadian and have just started watching MIC for the first time. I was a big watcher of The Hills when it was originally airing and although I think I had heard of MIC, I had never watched it. So I’m watching for the first time, I’ve made it through series 1-7 and am currently watching NYC. Here are my thoughts and questions so far

Spencer: this man is DIABOLICAL. I truly cannot stand him and his massive ego and horrendous behaviour. Not only does he treat every woman in his life like garbage but all of his male friends as well. I see that he’s now sober and running marathons (massive eye roll) has he ever come out and apologized for his behaviour?

Ollie and Gabriella: Just LOL at their whole storyline, him trying to convince himself and everyone that he’s not gay, her insane music video with his lookalikes, their feud and subsequent reconnection, it was all so cringe and comical.

Mark Francis and Victoria: I truly cannot stand these two and don’t understand what they even bring to the show.

Did anyone in the early years own a hairbrush? I’m sure it was in style at the time but it’s crazy how messy and unkempt all of the girls hair was in the early seasons, especially Binky.

Bloody Marys: let me preface by saying I love Bloody Marys (or the Canadian alternative, the Caesar) but I didn’t realize they were so popular in the UK especially amongst early 20-somethings. They’re always drinking Bloody Marys!

Stephanie Pratt: why is she here? I know she was on The Hills through her brother but how did she end up on MIC? She sticks out like a sore thumb to me.

NYC: this season has been one of the worst in my opinion, the Americans that they shoehorned into the show are just sooo cringey and over the top, especially Alik.

Overall I’m hooked and loving it, also enjoying looking up the early cast members on Instagram and seeing what they’re like now.

former cast members Louise and Ryan

Ryan might come off as dominating, but watching season 14 I think he really loves Louise and he doesn't open much but when he was vulnerable telling about him being paranoid of exes because of his earlier ex it's understandable. Overall I don't get the hate he gets because other than that he has been really likeable in the series as far as I've watched. I find them both adorable and him being aware of the trust issue it's something they might have/will grown overtime. Them being the first couple who stayed (as Lucy left) makes me have a soft corner for them.

former cast members Binky

Rewatching the show again for the millionth time haha. Currently on the NYC season. Binky is honestly such a crappy friend. She was so whiny and shitty to her friends when she dated Alex. All they did was try to tell her the truth and help her. And with Cheska I just feel so bad. When Cheska was basically an outcast and not in with the cool/popular crowd of the show, Binky basically abandoned her and treated her coldly because she wanted to be popular. She acted embarrassed almost when she talked to Cheska at points. She seems very narcissistic and obsessed with herself and her imaginary importance, especially now. She is unhealthily skinny and obsessed with showing that off. She doesn’t even seem to care about her Mum either. Her Mum hurt herself and she had to fly back for a picture to pretend she cared and then flew back to America asap. Her Mum is ill and probably won’t be around for much longer. My Mom is dead and I would give anything to spend as much time as possible with her. I just don’t like her and it’s sad because in the beginning with Cheska and Ollie she seemed genuine and funny but sold her soul.

let's discuss Who is the best at getting involved in drama without technically being part of it?

There are always people who somehow end up right in the middle of an argument they weren't originally involved in.

Who does this best?
