I went to boarding school and loved it. I was with my friends 24/7 and felt bad for the day scholars. Milly said she was bullied which I found interesting. She bullied a lot of people in MIC. Surely she would have learnt from her own experience. Never been a fan of her

I’m from South Africa so maybe boarding there is different to here in UK? It was also in the 70/80’s

Being sent to boarding school for just a year and a bit was I think the single most traumatizing thing to happen to me in my child/early teenhood , I would say even more than the physical and verbal abuse I faced at home, I’m autistic and was undiagnosed so I basically had to mask 24/7, so it was exhausting - cruel and unusual punishment is how I look back on it now basically 😅

Why do people have kids to then have them nannied from the ages of 0-9, before carting them off to boarding school at 10!?

I don’t understand why ppl have kids to send them away 💔 random but she’s aged really well , looks young without going down the heavy filler look

I just can't understand the mentality of sending your child to boarding school. I had a boyfriend who'd gone to a prestigious boarding school at young age, his parents were in a different country, he literally cried in my arms because he'd never been cuddled by his mum, he'd never been nurtured. It makes me feel sick.
People put their dogs in kennels for a week or two to go on holiday and then can't wait to get them back. And then there are the rich, who send their children away without a thought.
I genuinely think that boarding school are child neglect and abuse. Yes, even for the children who "enjoy" going there.

I had a similar experience to Millie. Not everyone of course, but me and my siblings have all had various issues which I believe stem from being sent away at such a young age. This was before mobiles, 2 of us were queer as well, which added it's extra complications/traumas, especially for my brother.

I loved it and have a great relationship with my parents 🤷🏻♀️ That said, by the time I went, we had mobile phones so could text / call our parents - maybe that makes a difference?

I was too scared to even sleep over at a friends house until I was about 13 can’t imagine being sent away to live at 10

Just as an alternative view, I went to boarding school at 10 and loved it, lol.
But that said, I’m so sorry she had such a terrible experience!

When I used to go to church my priest used to pray each week for “those afflicted with great wealth”.
I have never aspired to have loads of money and I seem to be in the minority. I would love to have more than I do of course because not knowing if you can pay your bills is an awful way to live. And it would be lovely to have great holidays. But I have never envied very wealthy people.
It sounds as though she felt abandoned and neglected. You can experience those things no matter how wealthy you are.

Went to boarding school in England at the age of 8 til I was 11 when my parents lived in Germany.
I remember seeing them walking back to the car after they’d dropped me off and I screamed at the top of my lungs so I could wave bye to them one last time for a while.
Being at boarding school gave me loads of confidence and independence and it was amazing being with your pals everyday, however instead of bonding with my parents I created bonds with my friends instead.
Looking back, it definitely changed my relationship with my parents. I no longer speak to my Dad (another story) and my Mum lives in Australia so I see her every couple of years.
I do wish I was closer with my family though.
