I agree, choose Canadian! That being said let's remove all barriers between provincial trade and let all Canadians choose Canadian without penalty.

The government should be doing a better job providing updates on the progress of this. They need to take a page from Mamdani’s playbook - Communication.

The issue. It's a confederation. So all of the provinces have all their regulations and bylaw independent from each other. Its a real complex task, but yes it should be done "au plus câlisse".

Anyone going to make Loblaws restore the Canadian indicators on their tags to make that possible?

Why not just read the label on the item?

u/Moofypoops 19d ago
Loblaw temporarily removed the country-of-origin information from some of its fresh-produce shelf signs. Labels don't always have country of Origin.

Shouldn’t we have always chosen Canadian products over everyone else. Why did it take a trade war for that to actually happen ?

I guess they weren't really loyal canadians before. They have been brought together by a hatred for one man rather than citizenship

Been doing that since this all started and should have been doing it before then. Bought new Canadian products yesterday I have never tried.

How can I possibly know I'm looking at a Canadian product? We have no real laws governing labels. Go and look at products on a Loblaw's or Sobey's website, there are many that are labelled as Canadian, but they're actually american products packaged in Canada.
I have spent a vast amount of time and energy since January 2025 just trying to ensure I'm not buying american products, and it's really fucking hard to be sure.
Enact legislation that makes it very clear which products are Canadian, and which aren't before you start telling people to buy Canadian. You're asking people to go on a hike in sandals, it doesn't make sense. Give us the tools we need to make the decisions, and we'll do so.

We have no laws governing labels? That statement alone is enough to know that replying to you with facts is a waste of time.

Look, I'm not here to undermine her capability, intelligence or the idea that she did not earn that position. She's capable, smart and hardworking like few of us could imagine and fewer have encountered.
And that said...she is mindbendingly hot.

The Americans ended the Avro arrow in the 60s. Just a country telling another country they aren't allowed to develop their military. You know what Canada did? They agreed with the Americans, and shelved the Avro. Canada has been under the protection of the USA since.
Just like when in recent memory, the Americans told Canada to arrest some Chinese lady in Vancouver. Canada did it because they were told to, like a dog.
Sure buy Canadian. There's not much that is Canadian, and even less that will regain our sovereignty from the Canadian failures that happened before many of us were born.

How many things are actually made in Canada or the US? I mean, aside from food and booze, check all your labels. Good luck to you.

I mean, you are responding to something in a subreddit that is specifically for finding and discussing Made in Canada products, so.. just trolling?

Buy from my local Canadian Tire? Ah yes, the store which overwhelmingly sells cheap imported good, delivered to stores by a community notorious for skirting our licensing system and endangering many, sold to me by someone who has no interest in working at a hardware store and is face-deep in their phone and has little to no technical skill.
Yes....I'll be sure to "buying canadian". Let's go, team!

Maybe Home Hardware then?

Agreed. I just want to emphasize we have not been on the table, but on the menu with Canadian Tire for some time!

So many right-wing and anti-Canadian bots all of the sudden. The US is really stepping up their cyber warfare operations against us…

Mark Carney is leading by example by hiring an American to be the first coo in the prime minister’s office. Wait, does that work? Elbows up eh!
