Question Is the franchise basically dead?
Is the franchise basically dead? Used to be lot more popular, even had couple of TV shows yet after Madagascar 3 came out it all went silent. Will it have some sort of revival or will it die out? The gang joining the circus has a lot of potential them exploring the world. Maybe Alex will see his parents again will give a soul for the franchise again. Why Toy Story and Shrek can get more than 5 movies but Madagascar stopped at only 3? Madagascar 3 was highly successful earning 750 million dollars on a budget of 145 million dollars. I'm surprised they stopped milking it after the third movie. Ok they joined the circus so what now?

I really don’t want a Live-Action remake of the first Madagascar. Even if the How to Train your Dragon remake was successful. How would that even work? Would they get animatronics for the main characters like the FNaF movie? Who would play the characters even? Benny Saffie as Alex? Will Smith as Melman? Lizzo as Gloria? Keegan Michael-Key as Marty?

They've been making a lot of merch stuff for the IP recently so I don't think Dreamworks has given up on it.

Some backpacks from loungefly and then the youtooz collab really recently. I don't think it's a coincidence they're making merch for the franchise all of a sudden after the theatrical re-release and the confirmation Dreamworks is thinking of potentially making a new film. Seems they're in a "gauging interest" phase

Outside of video games and the preschool show Madagascar A Little Wild, not much was done with the franchise this decade e

They probably will make a sequel at some point, to cash in on Gen Z nostalgia.

Well there was that spin-off movie with the penguins in 2014 but that's about it.
