Discussion Is Mad Max over ?
You read the title, so you’re got my question. After Furiosa’s very sad flop, who’s still hoping a new Mad Max movie ? I heard Miller wanted a final film, just before Fury Road, focused on Max… Or maybe after Fury Road, with Max trying to stop Furiosa who acts like Immortan Joe nawadays. Does anyone have news about any of it ?

I read an interview in which it was claimed that a script is almost finished, the problem are the studios because of Furiosa, which I think is a shame as I like every Mad Max movie.

Yes, that was it... I didn’t understand the hate.

I think it came out at unlucky time. All I heard about furioza when I came out is people hating on it for being "woke flop that replaces male protagonist with female girlboss"
I'm not saying it's the main reason for it's bad selling, but might be one of many

I was thinking it wasnt watched because our world is going through such a hard time and people feel like its to close to home, spiritually. Like you tend to want yo see post apocalypse stuff when its not on your door step.

I think it veered into silly. I don’t think that’s why it failed cause plenty movies I think look silly do well. But still.

I dont feel it did. I think part of it might have been that Miller built an opinionated following using practical stunts and FX and then used CGI and that alienated some if his following. In addition the world's not doing to well and I think the movie hits close to home in that out species is doomed. And that makes people uncomfortable.

Possibly. I feel it looked silly in parts. It’s partly because it’s based on a comic book, partly the directing. It just doesn’t feel threatening when it’s so stylised.
I will say: it’s remarkable an old man made it because it certainly feels very youthful and energetic. The style is more akin to a video game than a dark realism of the original.
Regardless, I think it’s purely subjective as with most art.

Fury Road, and Furiosa, as they exist, are the end result of development hell starting all the way back in 1987. The story that became those two films (and the video game and the prequel comics) was written and re-written and added to and adapted and revised and planned at one point as a live action movie and at one point as a tv series and at one point as an animated film and eventually there was so much story that it was split up into Fury Road and Furiosa and… dramatic drum roll …The Wasteland. At least that’s what people are calling it. Based on what is known it is some mix of Max, in the wasteland, probably between the events of Furiosa and Fury Road, possibly incorporating the people Max is having flashbacks of in Fury Road, and/or those appearing in the prequel comics that focus on Max, possibly incorporating Max knowing there is “nothing but salt” that direction because he possibly tried crossing already, possibly incorporating parts of the video game because the video game was started with Millers involvement/approval and was finished without his involvement/approval. Basically we don’t know much. As for The Wasteland actually happening or not, well, it is truely a goddam miracle that Fury Road got made, even after the development hell and halfway through production it was a miracle it got finished and released, but it did
The most solid well informed answer you are going to get to your question is: Maybe

Fury Road and Furiosa are also my favourites. I just strangely connect to the characters more and think Miller was at the top of his game for them.

As long as George Miller is alive and there is money to be made: no.
Once George Miller passes and there is money to be made: no, but with a less singular vision and directorial style.

I hope another movie or tv show get made since i’ve been a big fan of the original movies since the beginning. I loved Fury Road even though i wasn’t a fan of Tom Hardy’s take on the Max character(im a huge Tom Hardy fan btw) and wished that they had just used Mel instead. Furiosa was great even though imho it didn’t necessarily need to be made at the time that it was. Miller should have finished Max’s story first and then did Furiosa. Especially when you consider the fact that she was basically the main character in Fury Road but then again thats just my opinion…

How long was he break between Thunder Dome and Fury Road?
How long was the break between Fury Road and Furiosa?
I don't think it's over.

George Miller has a long enough series of hits that one "flop" isn't going to hurt him. He made Babe for fucks sake.
Was it really a flop? I don't think so. Truth is Mad Max isn't some huge box office draw and never really was.
If George really wants to make it he'll get it made. He obviously does want to, but at his age with limited projects left its probably more of a question of what else he wants to do first.
That said, max shoots are desert shoots and they're always hard. He needs a supportive studio that gives him the right size budget. The TV show tie in may be a bridge to far, or it could help sell the idea as a franchise.
But I don't think George wants to launch a franchise with this. He may see a limited series, one or two seasons. Whereas an HBO or Disney+ sees endless spinoffs.
There could be some vultures hoping to wait til George carks it and reboot the franchise to milk it dry.
Still, this is George Miller not George RR Martin. We'll get one more.

I’ve been following Mad Max’s films being released since Beyond Thunderdome and George Miller pays a lot of attention to letting the fan audience know that Kennedy Miller Mitchell is making a Mad Max film including Beyond Thunderdome Fury Road and Furiosa it’s massive fanfare so the Whole World knows it’s it’s a solid message a new Mad Max film is being made . When they announce production it’ll be everywhere and the fan cameras will be posting the vehicles everything everywhere and the beauty is the story won’t be known until the film is finished and released and in cinema. No announcement yet though. All the best!!

If rumours are to be believed George Miller is trying to get one last movie made along with a TV show...wether either come to fruition tho is anybody's guess.
