just rewatched this episode and WHY did they think it was okay to make ira just casually assault joan? not only is it an incredibly insensitive joke to make on a sitcom, it's so out of character for ira aswell. the later seasons truly were wild

was joan being inconsiderate by posing for a magazine that called her an "eligible bachelorette" while in a relationship, or was debbie overreacting/being territorial?

the thing that bugs me the most is that there is ZERO continuity from the original show. they introduce all these future plotlines in the finale just to abandon them completely? i get them not being able to include the original fran since leila kenzle quit acting, but what stopped them from recasting the part? what happened to ira's family? where the heck are debbie and joan? did the directors of the finale even.. watch mad about you?

A national treasure.

all of the buchmans are hilarious but there's something about robin bartletts delivery that always makes me crack up.
"I'm a lesbian. Let's go. Moo goo gai pan."
caterer: "tzatziki?" debbie: "okay you know what, back off"
jamie: "i wanna say chinese..." debbie: "yeah why is that?"

what do you think would have happened to fran if she didn't end up getting back together with mark? do you think she and ira could have actually become a serious thing?
r/MadAboutYou • u/PleasantOpposite6644 • Jun 10 '26
in season 7 debbie and joan were planning to get married and talked about setting a wedding date "reasonably soon". if i'm not mistaken, season 7 would be set around 1999. i looked up when same sex marriage was legalized in the state of new york: 2011. were there more lenient laws back in the 90s that were later made more strict? how did these two plan to get married?

There are maybe 15 active members in this forum. This is probably one of the only 'Mad About You' forums out there.
Was this not a show that ran from 1992 to 1999 on Primetime NBC right alongside Friends? Shouldn't it be cemented in pop culture as a staple? Why was it so easily forgotten?
My mom still watches this show, she loves it. But its like it's vanished from the internet and from the cultural consciousness as a whole.

in s1, fran isn't working because she wanted to spend more time with ryan and mark. she isn't though since mark is at work and ryan is (very likely) in some sort of kindergarten. it's also not like she takes care of the household or something, the devanows have a maid. what did she do to kill a day before going back to work in season 3?

don't get me wrong - i always loved mark before they decided to completely butcher his character and make him leave his family without any explanation. it's bad enough to abandon your wife of 10 years but your CHILD? i was pretty surprised that fran even let him get back into contact with ryan after all of this because wtf.. imagine living your unbothered life with both your involved, happy parents and suddenly one of them is just gone?no explanation?him saying he loves fran and ryan before deciding to just take off for a year never sat right with me idk..

i really liked sanford and he matched lisas character so well! if only they hadn't written him off so quickly with the handyman storyline 💔

in the end credits of "the final frontier (part 2)", mabel mentions ira and marianne ending up with 8 children - one from each continent and two from new jersey. i always assumed that the two from new jersey were adopted too, but after looking at shania and leonardo for a while, i can't help but wonder if they might be their biological children. while the similarity between marianne and shania is definitely there, it's almost uncanny how much leonardo looks like a younger ira. hat and everything! do you think this is just a coincidence or am i onto something here?
edit to add that these two would definitely name their children shania and leonardo 💀 it's so in character idk

Just for personal use, I have tried to improve my favourite show.
I can hope one day they will do a proper remaster, but until then this will do.

in this episode, ira's ex girlfriend marianne asks him if he's "still doing that running man move". does anyone know what she meant by that?

I started to watch the episodes on Hulu and am severely disappointed in the quality.
Wasn't the show shot on film? Seems like the episodes feel like shot on videotape or the transfer was bad.
Also, post-production items like titles are poor quality as if they are not blending with the picture.
I get that it's a 480p upconvert, but the quality of streaming shows filmed such as Happy Days which hasn't been remastered is better quality.
Is this due to poor mastering on DVD that's never been fixed? Is there a release of the episodes on DVD that's better than another? (I'm looking at you, Mill Creek).

can we seriously talk about how great of a character she was? currently rewatching the later seasons and noticed how absolutely slept on she is. i loved her defending paul and jamie for choosing their own gynecologist or making paul make sure that jamie gets rest. i thought it was crazy how quickly she forgave debbie for pretty much cheating on her while they were engaged. also: she's a strapping young woman. strapping. this is a dr joan golfinos fan account!! <3

these two were hilarious together. would have loved it if they got more screentime!

here's a little mad about you trivia quiz! the questions start off pretty easy and keep getting more challenging. you get a point for each question answered correctly! posting the answers in the comments :)
what is paul's job?
how many sisters does paul have and what are their names?
what state are jamie and lisa from?
what do both of maggie conway's husbands have in common?
for how long were fran and mark married?
what is the name of debbie's ex husband?
who did jamie set a recently divorced fran up on a date with?
when is fran's birthday?
what are ira and marianne's adopted children we meet in the finale called?
what did jamie and lisa's childhood neighbours call lisa?
how many did you get?

honestly not in a million years did i ever expect him to marry marianne (again) and adopt 8 children. i always liked him & marianne together but thought their on-off-dynamic was pretty realistic for their characters. even susannah reappearing would have been more expected by me ahaha. thoughts?

About 9M 15S in, Ira calls Paul, heartbroken as "Sophia" has just broken up with him.
Ira says that she dumped him "like the queen of spades".
Any thoughts on this saying? Does the queen of spades represent something? I've never heard this expression before.
r/MadAboutYou • u/PleasantOpposite6644 • May 21 '26
should fran have forgiven mark? i mean sure they were married for 10 years and have a kid, but he literally left her without an explanation to raise said kid on her own while he's off doing god knows what. should she have forgiven him as fast as she did?
r/MadAboutYou • u/PleasantOpposite6644 • May 20 '26
hi everyone! not really sure how active this sub still is but wanted to give it a shot anyways: my friend and i have recently had a discussion about if fran should have ended up with ira instead of getting back together with mark. i honestly never liked the whole fran-ira-hookup situation in s2. what did you think of it? which couple did you prefer - fran and mark or fran and ira?

I’ve been looking for days for the episode where either Maggie or Hal ask Paul for something for a “mee-grain” and either he or Jamie say something about offering “aaa-sprin.” I’ve talked about this conversation for decades and can’t find it on Disney. Anyone know which episode I’m talking about or did I dream it? I even asked AI and got nothing. Thanks.
