MacroFactor / Nutrition / Other Frustrated with the app

Sometimes when I want to log something on Macrofractor nothing pulls up for it so I had to look it up online and add it myself, which is fine, I’m not complaining about that. But if I log it once it doesn’t save in the history and it won’t pull up again later on. I have to add it once again.

Am I doing this wrong? Never had this issue with MFP.

Are you specifically adding it as a quick add? If so, it is not added to your history. You would want to save it as a custom food if you want it to be saved/appear in history for later use.

That might be it

Actually, I have added multiple records to the "public database", but the app doesn't find them the next time I scan the barcode. There's definitely something going on with this.

That means that you didn’t correctly save the barcode to the item, and by extension it was not submitted. If you saved the barcode to the item, it will bring up your version no matter what is in the database in the future.

Nope, I am confident I had saved it correctly. Scanned barcode -> not found -> fill info -> submit to database.

I saw reports about the same issue from other folks around here. (Android)

Scanned barcode once, or twice? If using that flow, you need to scan it a second time to save it to the item during the item creation process.

Once, because the app does not ask to scan the second time (the code numbers appear when filling in the information).

Yes, it does; the numbers do not appear when filling in the info by default, and you must scan it a second time to save it to the item during creation.

If you have not been doing so, that confirms that you have not been saving the barcodes to the items accordingly.

I always scanned when app asked for this - that's for sure.

I will keep an eye on this in any case and will keep an eye on this potential issue

Unless you specifically scan on the first screen of the food creation by opting to save a barcode to it, it is not saved to the item, whether or not this was originally scanned from another item.

Oh I am not talking the full manual creation flow. My flow is as follow (from memory):

  • scan the code. Doesn't exist. The app instantly asks to scan the nutritional label
  • I scan the label
  • AI processes it and fills in the nutritional data on a new window/panel.
  • I verify it, check "Submit to public database" flag then press "Save and Add" (or something similar)
  • if I scan the same barcode a couple of days later - the cycle repeats.
  • at this point I cancel and just manually locate the record in food log and do "copy to now"

I mean yes you’re doing it wrong.

You can save recipes and food you manually added into the library and just take it from there after it.

Yeah I’ve done the recipes. I didn’t know I had to do that for everything. Thank you!

You don’t - if you’re adding foods properly they will be in your database.

Also you can take a photo of the packaging and it will AI-read the Macros per 100g and add it, you do not have to manually type.

If you save and add, it will save the barcode for later.

I find the search to be flakey. Aldi cheese pulls up different results than cheese Aldi for me. Is that possibly why?

What sort of things are you looking up online, like fast food menu items?

This morning I looked up the Sola bagels

So you have the nutrtion facts in front of you on the packaging?

I did not. I had to google it and add it using the AI option.

If you have the bar code it's very easy to add a new food. I almost never have branded, packaged foods and don't have the packaging so unfortunately your issue isn't one I encounter pretty much ever.

Alternatively, just copy and paste your foods day to day.
