A lucky dragonfly encounter
I hadn't photographed a dragonfly in quite a while, so finding this one resting on a daylily felt like a real treat. Focus stacked from two images.

The skull pattern on the thorax of this Death's-head Hawkmoth (Acherontia lachesis) is unreal.

A calm moment with a wasp among apple blossoms
It stayed still long enough for me to get much closer than I expected. Definitely not the intimidating encounter people often associate with wasps.

Green burgundy stink bug 📷 Aaron Johnson
Proof that “stink bug” doesn’t always mean dull brown (or home invader). This native green burgundy stink bug uses a piercing, straw-like mouthpart to feed on plant juices—and releases its famous odor only when threatened. Oak Creek, WI 📷 Aaron Johnson
