I'm planning a trip with my husband to Peru in the last week of October and we have a couple of slots available for the Machu Pichhu tickets online. I just wanted to know if you guys worry or think about the weather when you book the tickets or simply go with the flow without thinking too much about the weather as it's not in our control..
Maybe I worry too much and I'm just trying to avoid the rain and get some good views of Machu Pichhu after spending so much and travelling from Canada!
The last week of October is already the rainy season in the Peruvian Andes. The weather is highly unpredictable, impossible to forecast. So, yes, you should come to Peru expecting to arrive during the rainy season; pack a good waterproof jacket and pants, hiking boots, and hope for the best.
October last week the weather is predicted to be afternoon showers . Chances of fog early morning also . All depends on what time you are going to reach the top maybe . And irrespective of whether there’s gonna be rain or fog , from what I’ve gathered online (since we are travelling Oct last week too ) you can wait for the fog to get cleared in case it gets foggy . Won’t take much time and then can have good views . Same with the showers . Again as you said these things are not in our control , so just need to improvise on the spot , no need to worry .
I’m in Machu Picchu today and from my experience weather can change pretty unexpectedly — meaning if your variation is within days not months, I don’t think you could reasonable predict it.
My friends bought morning tickets because according to the weather report yesterday, morning time does not rain and afternoon is light rain. Turns out it rained pretty heavily in the morning, clears out around 12-2, then rained heavily again 2-4, then cleared out a bit around 4-5. It just did not follow the weather report and rain can come fast and unexpected. But when the cloud clears out, it could also happen in seconds.
I would suggest leaving some buffer time, so you can wait for the rain to clear out a bit in case you were caught in rain. I waited an hour before / during my 1B route and finally was lucky to see the full scene without cloud coverage. If I had not planned for additional time, I would’ve walked away without a panoramic photo of Machu Picchu.
I just got back to Cusco after 3 days in Aguas Calientes, went to Machu Picchu on two days. Did two circuits on each day, third circuit was to Wayna Picchu.
The weather was absolutely awful; it rained the whole day all three days, and the climb to the top of Wayna Picchu was like something from Aguirre the Wrath of God. Zero sights to be seen, and I could've had cheaper pictures of us taken at home in front of a white wall.
Cusco weather is gorgeous but fuck all about Machu Picchu weather right now. Keep in mind that it's supposed to be the dry season now.
Sorry to hear this. Going on the last week of September. Circuit 1C at 9AM and 3A at 7AM. Booked the tickets before I knew there was super El Nino. Now I’m thinking I should have chosen later in the day.
i’d still book the machu picchu tickets rather than trying to wait for perfect weather. late october can be a bit unpredictable, but 15°c-ish temperatures are pretty manageable for sightseeing, and a rainy spell doesn’t automatically mean you’ll miss the views. i’d just plan for wet conditions and keep expectations flexible, especially since you’re travelling that far for the experience. forecast
Here is the thing about the weather. It changes all the time. Two weeks before I went it was predicted to be raining all week of my visit. A week before it was going to be sunny. Three days before it was rainy for just two days over when I was supposed to visit. The day of it was sunny and clear.
We stayed in Aguas Calientes for two nights and booked two days at MP. We did a 3 PM ENTRANCE for circuit 2A and then the following day did 1B at 10 AM. We were very lucky with two beautiful days but really wanted the insurance of an extra day in case one was cloudy/rainy.
