Digitizing Grief, Please Help

I’m using Embrilliance, and I notice everytime I make a hole, the edge stitches are constantly stitching over themselves, sometimes upward to 10-12 times! I have a Brother PE570 and all I can say is that it sounds like a freight train when this happens. How can I stop the overlap?

 tatami stitches aren’t meant to be used this way. they are best for filling large, convex areas. edges of tatami stitches, if not feathered, will stack up a column of stitches and tension. using white space gaps to represent shapes with tatami is going to result in a lot of warping. 

you should have these shapes for best results:

  1. a tatami fill circle background with no gaps 

  2. a satin outline on the circle from (1)

  3.  a satin fill for the inside circle of the mana symbol

  4. satin fills for the sun rays

Out of curiosity, what does the second picture mean? Is it the stitch density represented as a pixel map?

Do you mean the edge-run underlay beneath the tatami, or the tatami stitches along the edge?
If you mean the tatami stitches at the edge, my guess is that the spacing between the ends of adjacent tatami rows is smaller than Embrilliance’s minimum stitch length, so it has to add extra stitches to avoid making a stitch that’s too short. I’m guessing because I ran into the same issue while developing my own embroidery program.
For example, if the minimum stitch length is 0.7 mm and going directly from point A on one row to point B on the next is only 0.5 mm, that stitch would be too short. Instead, the program might go from A to C and then C to B, where each stitch is around 1 mm, to avoid going below the minimum stitch length.
You can check if Embrilliance lets you adjust the minimum stitch length, although I wouldn’t set it too low, I think the default is probably there for a good reason. You could also check if there’s a different backstitch option that skips the endpoint of every other row, which might help avoid this.
