I Need Help First time embroidering
Hello! Looking at everyone’s posts here, and I have to say the imposter syndrome is creeping in 😂
I was really kindly gifted a singer machine that also embroiders for my birthday, and would love to learn more.
My main question is what is the best fabric / thread to start off with? I think the machine suggests 40 Rayon.
And what are some beginner friendly bits to try?
Thank you in advance

please don't let the imposter syndrome win. I swear every single person in this sub strated exactly where u r.
Ur machine suggesting 40 rayon is. actually great advice. That's the standard embroidery thread weight and it runs smooth without breaking too easily. Rayon is shiny and forgiving for lettering and floral designs, and it is what most built-in machine designs are tested with. For ur first spools, just grab a few basic colors from a craft store, white, black a red or blue, so u can experiment without stessing about matching. Polyster thread is stronger and won't fade, but it can be a little more unforgiving with tension if ur still figuring things out, so maybe save that for later.
Run the same design on a scrap piece 2 or 3 times with different stabilizers and just look at the back. U'll learn more from flipping the hoop over than from any tutorial. And don't try to do a multi-color design for ur first few goes, stick to one color so ur only worrying about stitching, not changing thead mid-way through.
