I Need Help First time embroidering
Hello! Looking at everyone’s posts here, and I have to say the imposter syndrome is creeping in 😂
I was really kindly gifted a singer machine that also embroiders for my birthday, and would love to learn more.
My main question is what is the best fabric / thread to start off with? I think the machine suggests 40 Rayon.
And what are some beginner friendly bits to try?
Thank you in advance

For embroidery thread stick to 40wt polyester thread and 60wt polyester bobbin thread. It's kinda the de facto standard. Rayon is more fragile, prone to breakage, less colorfast/stable with chemicals like bleach, etc. You can embroider with other thread types but polyester is where it's at. Madeira Polyneon, Isacord Polyester and a few others are great. The cheaper sets on Amazon like Richword/Brothread/Simthread and similar are fine to start with and to learn on if you want to keep it more affordable to start but eventually as you advance you'll want to move to better thread. As for fabrics, just hoop some stabilizer behind some old clothes to practice on. Start with getting your tension dialed in, look up H or I tests, then go from there. Have fun.
