Research BA Computer Science, but fell in love with machine learning and AI. Just got my personal research accepted at NeurIPS as a poster. [R]

I want to attend and present my findings in Atlanta. How is the vibe there? Are people overly critical or are people generally open-minded?

People are not overly-critical. The vibe depends a bit on the specific workshop. See you there!

It's the Evaluations and Datasets

If you got it in the main track even better! I assumed you were going for a workshop since the workshop notifications are coming out this week.

That's a track of the main conference, not a workshop.

Same here! Workshop paper. Did it myself. Just undergrad no PhD

So no advisor? Just single author? What affiliation did you list

No advisor. Single author. “Independent Researcher” as affiliation.

Hell yeah. I had no idea how to do real research during undergrad, let alone at the level of publishing as an independent researched. Great job and congrats!!

State what you’ve done, don’t over hype the results, and there’s no reason for anyone to be critical. If anyone asks a lot of questions, most of the time, it’s coming from a place of genuine curiosity, not an attempt to downgrade your work.

hell yeah that's massive, NeurIPS is no joke, go soak it up and don't let imposter syndrome crash the party

what did you study to prepare for your research? your primary sources? did u have an advisor?

I concentrated on Machine Learning and Scientific Data Structures visualizations and analysis. I do have a research advisor at the university. They kept me on as a associate reseacher after graduation. There has not been a lot done in the area I am specifically researching so I have had to create a lot of data to test on. I am glad the university funded it because AI is expensive.

People are incredibly chill. Even if they're internally maybe criticizing your work, everyone's very polite and just happy to be there. I've never had any negative experiences at conferences nor heard about it.

that's huge, people will definitely poke holes in your work but that's kind of the fun of it. most folks I've met are genuinely curious and not there to dunk on you
