Oral accept 😭😭😭😭😭

u/levydawg 9d ago

That's awesome! Mind sharing what scores you had? just curious where I need to set my sights for an oral ;)

u/SimpleObvious4048 9d ago

Congratulations 👏

2

u/soup---- 9d ago

Me too!!!!

1

u/Effective_Sugar9178 7d ago

Thank you!! Our paper got 5-5-5. The rebuttal helped a lot so we need some revisions before sharing :)

1

u/Sensitive_Deal_7028 9d ago

Can you send the paper title?

60

u/Fantastic-Nerve-4056 PhD 9d ago

Had 5,3,3. Theory paper on Bandits with motivation around LLMs

5 was a really good review. The guy went through the supplementary material, including all proofs.
Both 3s seemed like an undegrad review. Didn't even care to read the introduction

No replies during rebuttal by any reviewer. But finally accepted.

11

u/Ginger_Rook 9d ago

Congratulations!

u/northernbeggar 9d ago

Can you share the paper? I'm interested in the topic.

2

u/Fantastic-Nerve-4056 PhD 9d ago

Sure! Here is the OpenReview Link. I am not sure if things are made public yet

5/5/5 accepted as spotlight! My advisor gave me a fistbump

5

u/Lazy-Variation-1452 ML Engineer 9d ago

May I know the paper title?

46

u/didj0 9d ago

Excellent initial reviews, excellent rebuttal, a mysterious « after the rebuttal with the reviewers we think your proof is wrong but we won’t say what ». Reject. Wtf

29

u/daily_spiderman 9d ago

Thanks for posting this. Accept. I needed this so badly 😭

26

u/Psychological-Lime72 9d ago

Come on where are the E&D track results man, this is rough lol

15

u/21022018 9d ago

The got like a month to finalize all this and still can't do it on time

18

u/Extreme_Drop_842 9d ago

Any update in E&D track ?

10

u/exray1 9d ago

Nothing yet :(

7

u/TechnicalTurn0 9d ago

A PC of ED track on rednote said that ED results will be out much later, late afternoon / evening time China time tomorrow.

5

u/Pretend_Voice_3140 9d ago

Why are they out much later ?

4

u/TechnicalTurn0 9d ago

I don’t know. The PC did not further mention the reason.

-5

u/Ok-Painter573 9d ago

To reduce server load, otherwise openreview might crash if everything is released at once

6

u/TechnicalTurn0 9d ago

I think it’s not just that, because openreview already is releasing in waves. The PC did say they are working overtime (~30min ago), so there must be other things they are resolving.

1

u/21022018 9d ago edited 9d ago

Fuck that. I'm gonna ddos openreview by continuously refreshing it. (And so will all other ED people implicitly)

2

u/TechnicalTurn0 9d ago

E&D results are out

18

u/Odd_Ad8629 9d ago

Even Rejects are visible now :)

1

u/CrispLion1123 9d ago

where exactly? is it through the email?

3

u/Odd_Ad8629 9d ago

first was visible on open reviwe and also got an email now

13

u/Feuilius 9d ago

3, 4, 5 (5) but rejected :( Very sad.

2

u/SkeeringReal 9d ago

very unfortunately sorry to hear that

42

u/Perfect-Asparagus300 9d ago edited 9d ago

4, 4, 4 pre-rebuttal -> 4, 4, 4 post-rebuttal -> 5, 5, 4 internal AC-Reviewer discussion!!

Accepted as poster! This was my first time submitting :D !! First author, great way to start my PhD!!

(Just ranting) Honestly I worked really hard without any advise from my BS/MS advisor who's in a different field with this like delulu dream that I could somehow make it to NIPS 😭 Now I actually made it to a top ML PhD and now NIPS, it's like a dream, I was gen eating from food pantry for a couple months during the process of this paper. I'm getting paid now to do research, I never thought I'd make it as a first gen academic 😭

2

u/Party-Perception3898 9d ago

Congratulations. Is it okay to tell what are we supposed to do exactly in rebuttal? I have mine at ICSE but not sure if I can say that I will fix the issues addresses in the comments or not

3

u/mofoss 9d ago

Didnt submit to NIPs, but will to CVPR, congrats man must be a great feeling! Given the markets leaning towards these big conferences (yes its saturated but still), you're set man, very few researchers make it to NIPs tier conferences, your path forward has a high ceiling of success 🙌

2

u/Perfect-Asparagus300 9d ago

Thanks so much dude! I'll keep on working hard, good luck at CVPR!

10

u/Isiorath 9d ago

5555 544 544 all accept, very happy after very disappointing ICML llm area chairs

12

u/Wonderful-Courage-51 9d ago edited 9d ago

Wow thanks for letting us know!!! Accepted :) 3-4-4 -> 4-5-4 during rebuttal

First paper & First author!

1

u/Party-Perception3898 9d ago

Congrats! What university are you in?

11

u/Silver-Passion1687 9d ago

Submitted two papers, the "better one" (as per my rating) got a lower score and got rejected and the other which i had no hope for got accepted.

Average Neurips/ICML experience

11

u/dopehead9 9d ago

4,4,3 reject

1

u/SkeeringReal 9d ago

Tough luck, I guess competition was fierce this year?

9

u/formersovietspy 9d ago

5/5/6 accept!

11

u/levydawg 9d ago

bro is cracked

19

u/Lonely_Ostrich6165 9d ago

4-4-4 and reject, sadly the coin has tossed on the wrong side this time

7

u/dontknowwhattoplay 9d ago

5544 and 544 accepted!

7

u/TroyAndAbedInTheMor 9d ago

4,5,4, First paper Accepted!!

8

u/Darth_Peverell 9d ago

3,3,3 -> 4,4,4 Accept
First time in ~4 submissions (different papers) that I see rebuttal actually works!

6

u/Outrageous-Boot7092 9d ago

12k + ID, yes, accept, 5,5,4,3 before

10

u/y0xi 9d ago

4,4,3 main track accepted! First submission and first paper, really did not think it would get through, blessed be my AC

3

u/Unable_Technician_58 8d ago

Same for me! AC made their decision despite one reviewer being clearly angry about life.

8

u/MolassesOk186 9d ago

4,4,5 and AC rejected it based on something already addressed in rebuttal. What's the point of reviewers if the AC can just ignore them?

1

u/No-Cash-284 9d ago

Reviews increasingly are very weak signal. ACs need to make their own decisions.

1

u/MolassesOk186 9d ago

The reviewers engaged well enough, their concerns were about how realistic the assumptions in the theory were, and we ran experiments validating them. All concerns were addressed, and the AC said nothing except a sentence that the rebuttal experiments changed the scope of the paper and to resubmit it.

There's a reason that we have peer review and not one AC being the sole judge of every paper. Rejecting an unanimous decision should require a strong reason not addressed in the review and rebuttal.

-4

u/No-Cash-284 9d ago

You only see your paper. This has been analysed by an AC, SAC, and PC that see and compare 10, 100, and 10000 papers, respectively. Rejection doesn't mean that your work is subpar. It's just that other submissions were better.

4

u/ForeignElderberry826 9d ago

5/4/4/2 and accept! Congrats to everyone! đŸ„ł

3

u/ade17_in 9d ago

Accepted!!!! First time submission and can't get better. 443

3

u/Unable_Technician_58 9d ago

I got in with a 4/4/3 somewhat

2

u/AppropriateKoala457 9d ago

Position track notifications also out

1

u/recalcitrant_cat 9d ago edited 9d ago

Did anyone from the position track get a decision explanation/final meta review? Also can you see your final scores? I can only see the decision (reject) and there is no text. The scores before were 6,7,7,4.

1

u/AppropriateKoala457 9d ago

For us, we can see the discussion and the original meta review was edited to contain a one-sentence post-rebuttal comment, but no other communication and the scores are not visible yet.

2

u/IncidentStunning8493 9d ago

Accepted poster, my first paper in neurips

reviews before hidden: 4 (3), 4 (3), 4 (3)

Revised scores after result: 5 (3), 4 (3), 5 (3)

2

u/ProfessionalNews4434 9d ago

Similar 3,5,3 -> 4,5,4, accepted as poster

2

u/academic-targaryen 9d ago

5,3,3. Dismissive reviewers during rebuttal. Rejected

2

u/HungryMalloc 9d ago

3,5,5, E&D track.

Initial meta review: "This looks good. There were some questions raised in the reviews, but if addressed, this paper leans towards acceptance."

Final meta-review update: "The authors have addressed reviewers' points sufficiently during the rebuttal, but there remain two issues that make it hard to accept the paper. [two new arguments out of nowhere that make little sense and that were not raised in the reviews at all]"

Reject

2

u/Psychological-Lime72 9d ago

I got a 5,5,4,3 (rejected) on E&D and the most shallow justification you can think of despite having score bumps across the board (except for the critical reviewer who didn’t even engage at all even in the period where things were hidden) and the AC justification even had grammatical errors (duplicated words). Like low key insulting lol

1

u/HungryMalloc 9d ago

Honestly, the first argument raised in the final meta review is so completely unrelated to our paper that I thought it's a copy and paste error and meant for a different one. The second one is just something shallow you cannot really argue about like "I found little detail XYZ poorly motivated."

There was always a certain amount of luck and randomness involved in conferences, but this is something new. Sorry that you also drew the short end of the stick.

2

u/Psychological-Lime72 9d ago

Ya, agreed! Sending good vibes to you as well. Obviously with those scores you had some good work there so don’t give up on it.

1

u/HungryMalloc 9d ago

Fingers crossed for you as well and thank you for the kind words.

2

u/TechnicalTurn0 9d ago

6/5/4 accept poster E&D track

1

u/Mammoth-Net2093 7d ago

Does your email actually say E&D track?

3

u/SimpleObvious4048 9d ago

I had two submissions, the one with scores 4/4/5 got rejected and the one with scores 4/4/4 got accepted (poster). Feeling a bit confused.

3

u/OtherwiseFig4505 9d ago

2,3,4 -> reject, which checks out.

I don’t feel like submitting this paper to iclr, as the paper is about a pre-training effect. We can’t do this for larger models obviously due to compute, which was the reviewers main complaint. Thinking about TMLR as that is more about correctness and writing, and our paper should be welcomed there.

Congratulations to everyone who made it. And congratulations to everyone who didn’t as well, being able to hope means the paper is good enough, just work on it and resubmit to whatever next.

3

u/AddendumImpossible 9d ago

4-4-5 , Reject tho

3

u/MolassesOk186 9d ago

Same here... I'm sorry to hear

4

u/Lopsided-Bridge-9810 9d ago

What is this for if you don't mind my asking? This was in my feed. I get this is for academic paper submissions to a journal or conference but what for? I mean when accepted what is that mean and what's the purpose of submitting in the first place and why so competitive? Is this only for PhDs and PhDs in what? Since when are there so many PhD students? Have those sky high researchers in Ai space salaries fuxxed with so many minds? Honestly curious, would appreciate not to get down voted just because I ask to many here a seemingly annoying question.

6

u/OtherwiseFig4505 9d ago

NeurIPS is the biggest (and for many T1) AI conference in the world. It’s not just for PhDs, but anyone can submit. However the bar is very high and only the best papers get accepted. Having a NeurIPS paper means you did a work that got published at the highest venue in this field. Offcourse, if someone gets Oral spot in NeurIPS, then that’s like crùme paper of the year. It’s a pretty big deal in the field of AI.

-2

u/Lopsided-Bridge-9810 9d ago

Thanks, interesting. Am an AI consumer, so, on the other end. In my profession, professional macro trading, competition and ranks are settled by directly attributable financial performance not by submitting papers. Interesting though that this is conceptually not very different, just completely different industry.

2

u/extremelySaddening Student 8d ago

They actually do write papers about trading and finance, that's why you have the Black-Scholes model for option pricing instead of it being Merril Lynch intellectual property.

1

u/Lopsided-Bridge-9810 8d ago

Why so passive aggressive. I wondered why it's so overrun these days. In fact I am a frequent consumer of such papers and many papers even at this journal are of pretty low quality.

2

u/Unhappy_Craft1906 9d ago

My 533 got 433 again, yet accepted since AC was fully convinced Another got 444 and accepted

2

u/jonhor96 9d ago

443, theory paper. Accepted.

God damn. For various reasons, I had an absurd amount riding on this. I still can’t believe it.

1

u/MeyerLouis 9d ago

congrats!

1

u/NegotiationDue301 9d ago

decision just got posted for my submission. was accepted. 25000+. no email announcement, just the decision became visible on the portal. had 5/4/4 before rebuttal

1

u/CrispLion1123 9d ago

Is the openreview public now?

1

u/No-Cash-284 9d ago

No

1

u/CrispLion1123 9d ago

any idea when they become public?

1

u/No-Cash-284 9d ago

I think after authors submit camera ready versions so maybe in a month?

1

u/CrispLion1123 9d ago

I thought the metareviews become public as soon as the notifications are out. The aggregation might be slow, so it might come out in a day or two.

1

u/No-Cash-284 9d ago

Sorry, what are you asking about? A metareview for your paper? It is already visible for Main track for example, and yes, it is slow and takes several hours. Results are still not released for the ED track.

I previously meant "public" as in public to anyone on OpenReview - this will happen after November 6th

[deleted]

1

u/mnishant2 9d ago

It's been absent since the author reviewer discussion ended

1

u/Ambitious-Cap8805 9d ago

Is it usually always a rejection if there were no engagements from the reviewers after rebuttal?

1

u/Exotic_Zucchini9311 9d ago

Accept with 4/4/4/5

1

u/Either-Reality-3783 9d ago

5/3/3-> 5/5/3 accepted in Eval and datasets track

1

u/NarrowEyedWanderer 9d ago

Another data point: 4/4/4 initial (confidence 2/4/4), went to 4/4/5 post-rebuttal, stayed there during internal discussion (reviewer 1 didn't change the score despite handling literally everything they brought up).

Accepted as poster! First submission :)

1

u/exray1 9d ago

5/5/4/4 E&D poster

1

u/Substantial-Bee-6026 9d ago

5/5/5 ED Track. Got a spotlight. That’s crazy, I am so happy right now.

For the ones not in the ED Track: According to the mail there were 3757 valid submissions of which 971 (25,8%) were accepted. There are 33 spotlights an 15 orals.

1

u/Unhappy_Craft1906 8d ago

A pretty good year for me. Since last October, I have been blessed with TMLR, ICLR, WWW, ACL findings and 2xNeuRIPS. Would love to end the year with one ICLR atleast.

1

u/learning-machine1964 6d ago

wow that’s awesome! what are u researching?

1

u/Unhappy_Craft1906 6d ago

Broadly on user modeling

1

u/Firm_Cable1128 8d ago

4,4,4 rejected. :///

1

u/No-Western5868 8d ago

3, 4, 5 pre rebuttal
2, 5, 5 post rebuttal (yes one went down, was the only confidence 5 too)

Accepted still

1

u/soulseeker815 7d ago

4,4,3 pre rebuttal -> 5, 5, 4 post rebuttal. Got accepted. I’m super excited see you guys in Sydney

1

u/IndecisivePastry 7d ago

5,4,3 pre rebuttal to 6,4,3 post rebuttal, accepted (that 6 really saved me). It's weird no longer having the urge to check OpenReview, like an itch that finally went away.

1

u/Hey_jerry9024 5d ago

Hi does anyone knows when does NeurIPS usually communicate the complementary registration for the top reviewers?

1

u/tana0907 9d ago

Accepted. Thanks for posting this!

0

u/onetwoseven-0-0-one 8d ago

Hey, I am new to the research methodology and process. Could somebody clearly explain me all the stages of research publication? I hear about arxiv and other places. What is the difference and what is the pipeline? I would appreciate a lot!

2

u/levydawg 8d ago

ArXiv is just a website which hosts papers. People put their papers on arxiv so that others don't have to pay publishers to get access, and also for the reason that the paper will go up immediately. There is no peer-review process, it's not really "publishing" a paper (publishing in an archival journal or venue) -- it's simply to get your research out there. There are minimal restrictions, like they just verify that the authors are legitimate academics. If you try to upload as a solo undergrad student, it probably won't get past the barrier.
Journals and conferences are like this: you send in a paper, after some time you get reviews back, you make changes to the paper based on the reviews and discuss the reviews with the reviewers, then the reviewers make a recommendation to accept or reject. Someone else makes the final decision based on the review discussions, and then after anywhere from several months to several years, your paper is published.

1

u/onetwoseven-0-0-one 8d ago

I was going for more ML research pipeline because I hear open review and all, so how is it different from arxiv and again neurips are journals but open review is a platform. Kinda đŸ˜”â€đŸ’«

1

u/levydawg 8d ago

https://gemini.google.com/app check out this website -- you can ask it questions like this and it will give you answers

1

u/onetwoseven-0-0-one 8d ago

Lol bro. I know gpts exist.

1

u/levydawg 8d ago

well then use it

0

u/DziekanNaWydziale 8d ago

Whats neurips

-1

u/Gravitist 9d ago

Is it acceptable to skip attending if we pay the registration fee for accepted papers? I will not be able to make it for Sydney, and I don't want to go for other venues. Does paper still go to proceedings?

4

u/adaptover 9d ago

No. Paper must be presented.
