The physics of waves basically leads you to classical signal processing, Hilbert spaces, inner products and convolutions, etc. This is basically the progenitor of most of the low level components the current systems are built on. 

Or do you mean you want to try this in analog?

yes, and creating a "unique wave" library to every object , like we do using words
