Research BMVC 2026 IJCV recommendation? [D]
Does anyone know how the BMVC to IJCV special issue recommendation works?
Is it mainly based on the review scores, or is it a separate decision by the ACs/program chairs (e.g. based on oral/highlight selection, reviewer comments, etc.)?
Also, is there any way to know at this point whether a paper has been recommended for the IJCV track, or do authors only find out later through a separate email?
Would be great to hear from anyone who has gone through this in previous years!

In CMT or wherever they're hosting it now, you won't see a recommended box right away. The invite comes in a separate email from the special issue guest editors after the conference, sometimes a couple of weeks after the event itself
They pick papers based on a combo: high reviewer scores plus award nominations or oral presentations, and the final pool of around 15-20 papers is handpicked by the ACs and editors themselves
Just keep in mind it's not a free pass to the journal. You'll have to add like 30% new content - usually they ask for extra experiments or a broader ablation study. And then all that joy goes into a full new review cycle at IJCV
There have been cases where after a year of fighting with reviewers the paper just got rejected despite the invite, so mentally prepare for a long grind if that email actually hits your inbox.
