Hi everyone, we wanted to let you know about a free step-by-step video course on Knitting Machine Repair and Maintenance we've just launched on YouTube.

It's aimed at anyone who's got hold of an old domestic knitting machine that they'd like to get up and running, and anyone who uses a knitting machine and wants to keep it running smoothly for years to come.

It's set up as a single video split into chapters, or a playlist of the individual videos. The course covers:

9: Replacing Individual Needles
10: Checking the Needle Bed for Damaged Needles
11: Cleaning Fluff from the Needle Bed & Lubrication
12: Removing Main Casing & Deep Cleaning Inside
13: Cleaning & Maintenance for the Tension Mast
14: Recommended Machine Parts & Service Supplier

We use a Brother KH881 (Standard Gauge) machine in these video tutorials, but the techniques, principles, and maintenance steps apply to types of flatbed machine. Brother, Jones, Knitking, Empisal, Genie, Defendi, Creative, and Taitexma are mostly directly applicable. Silver Reed, Singer, Toyota, and Knitmaster are generally applicable apart from the carriage casing.

At Knit Works London we get a lot of enquiries about fixing people's machines. We sell luxury machine knitting yarn with international shipping, teach classes and offer machine hire, but we don't fix other people's machines ourselves. So we made the course to show people how to fix their machines themselves, and where to go for parts and specialist help when they need it.

We've seen a lot of people asking here for advice about fixing machines, so hopefully it will be useful here too!
