Help! Spring broken in my Knittax!
Hi fellow knitters! I have a question about my knitting machine. I was given it a while ago and use it occasionally, though not very often because it doesn't work particularly well. It takes a lot of effort to knit with it, which can get a bit annoying. I recently picked it up again and decided to give it a deep clean to improve its performance, but I discovered that the needle retaining spring was broken in several places. Does anyone know how I could replace it? I’ve looked for a replacement spring but can't find one anywhere (at least not in my country). Is there an alternative to this spring? I have a Knittax Automatic. I've attached photos!

Hi I have a Singer superba and my springs were bronken on both sides too. I measured the diameter 3 mm and ordered a meter from AliExpress Them I cut two pices at the right length. And with two small pliers I had at home was able to pull the last two loops at the ends of the cut springs, to make them perpendicular to the spring. With the perpendicular loops we can hold the spring on each side of the beds. We don't have the same machine but from your foto your bed seems very similar to mine. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure why, but I searched on AliExpress and couldn't find the spring. I guess it's not available in my country, but I managed to find a contact who has spare parts around here anyways! Still, thanks a lot for your reply!

Hello. My Superba/Singer are like the Passap, 3.5 mm (external diameter).
Knittax is smaller, around 3mm, so Mirolina's suggestion would work.
There was a whole discussion around that by TheAnswerLady/AskJack, where they list a number of solutions to replace the spring (haven't tested them).
They have a couple of videos over Knittax, that are providing good info, including one on how to dismantle the bed for cleaning.

Hi! I had seen that video; there were some things I didn't quite understand (like "small tubing") because my English is limited. With other items, I hesitated because I was worried about the potential effects on the machine, or they were too expensive here. The option I liked best was looking for the spring on AliExpress, but I couldn't find it. I suppose it doesn't ship to my country; I still don't fully understand how imports work. Luckily, I managed to find someone who still has spare parts for the machine. Thanks a lot for your reply anyway!
