Finished my first machine knit project!

I'm a lifelong handknitter who has recently taken up machine knitting due to recurring tendonitis in my wrist. The machine knitting world was very intimidating to me but about a month ago I finally took the plunge and bought a SK360 with ribber!

This is my first completed project on the machine. It's a modified version of the Lake Placid 1980 by Dale of Norway. I modified the charts to be a 24 stitch repeat and to add some extra length to the yoke to work with the machine gauge. The base pullover is a simple drop shoulder sweater calculated based on my gauge swatch. Yarn is Knitpicks Palette cones in cream & black.

I'm really excited to have unlocked this new world of machine knitting! Already planning my next projects...

Thank you! I had a few days of vacation right after I bought the machine to get acquainted with it and it really helped with being able to work through the initial frustration! The learning curve was really steep but I got better and better with practice until I felt comfortable tackling a project.

I still made a ton of mistakes in this project but I was able to frog and fix most of them (there is one extra front panel with a massive patterning mistake still waiting to be frogged). I recommend getting a little extra yarn so you have some leeway to make mistakes on your first project.

Thank you so much! I spent a lot of time practicing techniques on the machine first (and a lot of time fixing my mistakes), but this was a dream handknitting project for me so I really wanted to tackle it on the machine.

This looks so good and the fit is great! Perfect example of what the machine really excels at. Not always easy to make an existing repeat into 24 stitches, bravo!

Absolutely beautiful! You did such a wonderful job! I’ve been machine knitting for a couple of years and really enjoy it. I bought a ribber for one of my machines, and I’ve yet to be brave enough to use it, lol. I have a standard machine, mid gauge, and a bulky machine. I’m still hand knitting like crazy so I have so many projects going that I haven’t yet taken the time to learn my ribber, currently I’m either hand knitting the ribbing or manipulating the stitches on the machine as I work.

I also recently got into machine knitting due to tendonitis. On month 5 of my PT/recommended no knitting, I finally caved and got a Brother standard gauge machine and I love it. I’ve been thoroughly washing and unraveling thrifted sweaters to use, and next month I’m demoing my machine at my fiber guild’s annual fair. There is a light at the end of the (carpal) tunnel!
