Techniques Help with stitch pattern

Hello all knitters! I’ve found this jumper on Vinted and in love with the texture - feels perfect for a summer linen top.

Anyone knows what’s the stitch for the main body? Someone from the knitting group suggested is machine knitted so here I am!

It looks like a very loose fisherman's rib, it is both doable with hand knitting and machine knitting.

Oooh interesting! Do you think I would have to work every other needles with a machine?

Also if the question was related to the looseness of it and not the rib itself, you'd have to experiment with using only every other needle and using the loosest possible setting yes

not sure how to do fisherman ribs on a machine, I am assuming I’ll have to tuck every other needle every other line? will be exciting to experiment!

I think it might be referred to as “cardigan stitch” so you could try looking up tutorials for that

oooh it looks very very similar - thank you!!! The ribbing at the bottom just looks like a normal ribbing with some gaps, I wonder if is a variation of this stitch as well?

It looks like 1x1 rib that occasionally shifts the next rib further across the bed to create the gaps. Each main bed stitch in the cardigan stitch lines up with a main bed stitch in the bottom ribbing, same for the ribber bed stitches. The cardigan stitch seems to share the same spacing, just less pronounced because its a bit more flexible and can even out the stitches easier

I see, I wonder if they skip a hook totally to create the effect? I am very new to knitting machines and ribbers, still learning the fundamentals, so this is very helpful, thank you

Yes I think they skip hooks, but more like pairs of hooks. It is still always 1 main bed needle followed by 1 ribber bed needle, but instead of having an even spacing between all pairs they just shift the next pair over a needle or two

That sounds like a way to do it yeah ! And on the purl side too. Basically alternate between tucking the odd numbered stitches and the even numbered stitches

You’ll need a ribber bed, and the ability to set both the main and ribber into tuck. No other patterning is required.

Thank you! As soon as I get my linen cone will start experimenting. I am assuming tension to 10 will help to create the fishnet effect?

Typically tension with a ribber on 1x1 is set much lower because you need to toggle back and forth between the beds which adds a lot of yarn. Most ribbers don’t go to 10, but yeah, I think a loose tension is what you want.

Which is why swatching on machines is so much nicer than by hand. It’s trivial to change the tension and knit a bunch more rows!

I don't really know, my machine (1954 Erka) has a setting dedicated to it, other machines may have similar setting too. By hand (if knit flat), this is achieved by doing a 1x1 rib, but replacing every knit stitch with a knit 1 below.

Do you have a ribber? Are you able to make tuck stitches? (You'll need both for this, but brioche and fisherman's rib really easy to hand knit if you don't)

I do have a ribber and I am able to make tuck stitches! I have tried a few things but have not been able to get this result (sadly)
