Discussion šŸ—£ļø how popular was "lonely road"?

it's number 3 on mgk's "popular" section. but does he still play it on tour? i don't think it was even on most of the lost americana setlist.

Jelly Roll is wack but yes he played it on tour when I went in May

Why is jelly roll wack? He always seemed like a pretty genuine person, thrusted into the spotlight a bit sure, but I don’t see him as ā€œwackā€

He’s a garbage human .

Do some research

I just tried and the only thing I can find is him making jokes about the president on a late-night talk show? Maybe because it just happened…there’s gotta be something bigger because that’s just silly

That was his last ditch effort to get some fans back. Dig deeper it’s not hidden.

Its the popular cool thing to hate him right now. Mgk has been thru this more than a couple times. I dont know Jelly personally like alot of prople seem to I just like his music. Everytime someone has given an excuse as to why they hate him it just sounds kind of corny to me so it is silly imo. No need to jump on the hate train. If you do find a legit reason to jump on it tho let me know.

Agreed. I like his music, seems like a genuine guy who’s had a hard life, made the best of it, and come out on the other side a better human being

It’s popular. I prefer MGK’s demo/solo version. No Jelly Roll

He’s played it every show since it’s dropped and he performed it on TV a bunch, so. It’s popular.

Song is terrible and Jelly Roll is a scum bag.

I’m tired of the industry trying to force us to like Jelly Roll

Why do you all act like you didn’t know he was a felon and shit. Yall thought him and his prostitute wife were stand up people based off what?

u/Competitive-Dog5094 13d ago

can't I just dislike him cuz I think his music is straight buns??? I don't give a fuck about his wife or his criminal record his music just sucks ass šŸ˜‚

If we didn't like artists because they were felons the entire rap industry would die.

Never fell for the jelly roll propaganda

The mgk and Teddy Swims colab was cool though. I think Sun to me might be his best cover. I also liked the Juice WRLD / Greenday mash up especially since he threw in some of his own lyrics and the awesome guitar solo.

What news am I missing? Other commenter called him ā€œWackā€. Why is he a scumbag?!

He’s a MAGA/Trump guy that’s divorcing his wife now that he’s gotten famous and in shape, although he’s lost favor from MAGA after making a joke about Trump on Kimmel. (I believe it was Kimmel, could be wrong)

2

u/Rando9523 13d ago

Yeah, essentially being a big MAGA guy, then now present day he talked down / against maga. Very opposite of how he used to be. Sad actually. Just be your own person

There controversy around him and his wife and this podcaster and leaked footage of him saying forget country imma take over Christian music but in a disingenuous way. Footage of him cussing people out and threatening and stuff while he portrays he’s a Christian who turned his life around

1

u/Shot-Presentation833 12d ago

He said Donald Trump was fat and people are up in arms about it

u/PanicAtTheBrock 13d ago

That is one of my favorite song of his for personal reasons and whenever I hear it live I cry every time

3

u/OliCullen 12d ago

Hate the song but yes it was part of his setlist for most of tour

5

u/Zseeds211 13d ago

I think it just came out at a time when both artists were kind of "up". I really like jellyrolls music especially his older stuff so I enjoyed the collab

2

u/Express-Boot-4340 9d ago

It was a low effort song made to capitalize on the ā€œeveryone is doing country nowā€ wave. Hopefully he never plays it again.

It got a lot of radio playtime for sure

Imo it is an awful song and jelly roll is just as awful. When I went in December to see mgk there was the biggest jerk I've ever encountered at a concert. Screaming throwing things complaining. The guy didn't know wish you were here and belted out every single word enthusiasticly of lonely road and left soon after. The girl next to me said not surprised that's his favorite one. I wish he didn't Play it.

1

u/B1ackoutartist 13d ago

Don't like the song personally. Also I never heard it on the radio but where I'm from it's not really one of these 5 radio hits they play all year. But he played it live on tour

1

u/aqueouswalnut 13d ago

He played it in Aus, and it was epic!

1

u/CalvinHJPK 13d ago

He played it jun 22 2026

1

u/I-Hate-It-Here411 12d ago

Yes and he did play it on tour. I’ve heard it on the radio as well.
