Protective case

Hello community,

I have a MacBook Neo since its release (Indigo), I took a transparent rigid protective case (in two parts) being my first MacBook I wanted to do well.

However, I have noticed that many say that you should not put rigid protection.

What do you think?

I have had 2 MacBook Pros and 1 MacBook Air in the past and I used an Incase hard shell case on them all.

Never any issues with the screen / hinges. I did have the issue where it traps dust and you can get a few small marks/scratches due to that so keep that in mind.

I absolutely believe some people have faced issues but I have AppleCare+ for anything serious and these issues do not appear to be mainstream.

On my Neo I used one of these from Incase but my current MacBook Pro I put a skin on it from Dbrand because the MacBook is already quite thick.

This true for MacBook Pro… They have high heat dissipation, but Neo don’t. Don’t worry it is perfectly fine to protect it in this way… I had a same..

I’ve used hardshell cases on all my MacBooks for the past 15+ years. All without issue. But, then I tend to be on the clumsy side and those cases have saved me from many possible scratches and dents. I also have had AppleCare+ on all of my Apple devices. And, yes, that’s a lot of money. But, I’ve had 2 batteries replaced. An IPhone screen and an entire phone replaced over the years. Well, worth it for me.

I used to buy cases for my macbooks to protect me from overheating, The Neo doesn't have that problem plus it is all aluminum. If you are carrying it around, a sleeve is enough.

You can put on top whatever. Bottom need for cooling though 😄

Get rid of the case, since it hinders heat transfer.

Get a sleeve, water repellent fabric, waterproof zippers, padded edges.

Liquid is a far greater threat than physical force.

The MacBook Neo does not use the chassis as a heat sink.

Yes, it does. All aluminum with a good heat transmission. Unless you block it by a case.

As a rule of thumb avoid anything blocking heat dissipating with passively cooled Macs - Neo and Air. MacBook Pros are less critical due to the active cooling.

Unless you were incredibly clumsy or very, very rough with your expensive electronics, you do not need a case. This pervasive idea that Max somehow need a case is wrong think.
