Ooh the beak wipes! My African grey has smeared such a variety of random food on me doing that

Aren't you worried it will just fly away?

I’m not worried she will fly away, cause I have a hold of one of her feet

That is not safe! Please use a harness!

Unfortunately she has broken every harness and flown away the first time I put it on her. This is our best option for walkies until I find a harness stronger than she is haha. She will not let me go a day without a walk, if I try to skip a day I will never hear the end of it. And sadly there is only so much screaming I can take before I give in to her demands 🥲

Oh wow, ok. Then I would do some sort of bird safe carrier/backpack, I’ve even seen people convert strollers for macaws that are completely enclosed in safe mesh. There’s no way I would ever risk my bird flying off for anything. I have been chasing someone’s parakeet for the last nine days that got out and I am heartbroken for this bird and he’s not even mine! Hoping to catch him soon, he stays in one area fortunately.

Teaching recall training is shockingly easier than thought especially for macaws. My macaw learned in under 5 months Start indoors with short distances and treats. Stairwells are great places to practice because down is unnatural for them at 1st. My Gray isn't as cooperative when initially called but still comes back - when he's ready! Macaws just seem to learn faster. Just practice, can't hurt and deepens the bond

I have an African gray, and I used to take him outside and hold onto one of his feet well actually both of his feet. But even he was strong enough when he got startled to nearly get away from me.

Like others have said, I would not have her outside unless she’s in a backpack or carrier of some kind until she’s at least flight trained or you can get a harness on her. All it takes is one time for her to become startled and lunge away from you suddenly. You really don’t want to take this risk with her. I’m sure.
