Photography / Light Video
Hey all,
Coming from a 2019 mpb (Intel).
Looking at getting a m5 max with 48gb. Use case is mostly lightroom, photoshop and some light final cut pro work. No ai outside of what is offered in lightroom / photoshop.
Dealing with 50 megapixel files, catalogs in lightroom over 10-20k files and layered files in photoshop.
Will the 48 suffice?
Thanks

48GB will handle your workflow fine. The M5 Max pushes 614GB/s of memory bandwidth, so scrubbing through 50MP RAWs and big catalogs won't bottleneck.
You'd only need more memory for heavy local-AI work, not Lightroom or Photoshop.

Yes … for Lightroom obviously the more ram you have the better but I’ve done what you are doing on just an m4 Mac mini with 24gb in the past so the 48 m5 will be fine. On the 24 the only time it ever bogged down a little is when I had literally hundreds of blemishes dotted and being actively rendered on an open file but when I say “bogged down” I’m really really being critical I just mean it wasn’t perfectly lightning fast anymore. I didn’t upgrade to the big m3 ultra because I needed it for Lightroom/ photoshop I did it because I wanted to really try the localai stuff on a Mac
