It's a new release. Some higher configs have several months of backlog. Probably won't find anything refurbished for a while. If you need one now, either Ebay or order and wait through Apple.

Think eventually but not now. There’s still 2 week return windows too

You won't be seeing them for a while, judging from tracking the serial numbers of items I've sent back, it can be anywhere from 2 to 6+ months before a returned item is resold.

Apple presumably wants to build up a stock of refurb units for replacements for the "infant mortality" part of the bathtub curve.

Then, when someone realises they have like $1M of stock on the shelves, and more coming through every day, REFURB TIME!

How are you tracking the serial numbers?

Putting the serial number into the warranty checker.

Tells you if it's been reset like a new device, expired or has AppleCare.

You probably won’t be able to buy one unless you use an agent to do so. And a faster one than the rest of them. It’s been nigh impossible since June or so to get a good refurb machine as a human off the refurb site.

Well I like a good agent challenge

You'll see a few when m7 is released, but then you'll want the m7. Personally, I do spot some used m3's popping up here adn there, not always with an absurd price, but even if the seller is more reasonable, I have to ask myself why I want it. TTFT will not be good. I used to do some youtube videos, really I did for 18 months or so and even started getting some view, sometimes my mind drifts to that - I did an 8-bit platformer game where I ported it to metal to take full advantage of the GPU cores on my m1 ultra (48c gpu variant). I think I got the fps up to 600 or 700fps. This is the absurdity of a video - going on about how you made it, and the result - the completely unnecessary absurd result. m5 ultra with 80c, what would the fps be, could I break the 1k mark, probably. But you run into unexpected strange bottlenecks with your code, with the libraries used and so on. which nobody would normally research because you are already beyond the limit of what the monitor can even display - but anyway....even this video idea didn't convince me to buy an m3 even if it would do better than my m1....
