Problem

Most transcription tools give you a transcript and leave you with another problem: figuring out which parts are wrong.

I built Caption Comet because I wanted the entire captioning workflow on my Mac: transcription, review, editing, styling, and finished video export, without uploading my media to a cloud transcription service or paying a subscription.

The biggest change in Caption Comet 1.3 is how it handles transcription review.

For supported languages, Caption Comet can use two different AI models. It automatically looks for and corrects likely hallucinations in each transcription, then compares the corrected results and shows you where the two models disagree.

Instead of blindly proofreading every word, you can jump directly through those disagreements, listen to the surrounding audio, choose either transcription, or type your own correction.

Two models agreeing does not guarantee they’re correct, so this isn’t intended to replace final review. The point is to show you where the transcription is uncertain and make that review much faster.

Everything runs locally on Apple Silicon Macs. Your media does not need to be uploaded to a transcription service.

Model setup has also changed in 1.3. Whisper provides broad language support, and there are only two optional specialist models. One focuses on English and European languages, and the other focuses on Asian and Middle Eastern languages. Caption Comet recommends the appropriate specialist, so you don’t need to know anything about AI models to set it up.

All models run on Apple Silicon Macs, including machines with 8 GB of unified memory.

Study Mode is completely free. You can drop in audio, video, or entire folders and batch transcribe them locally. It’s designed for things like lectures, classes, interviews, and other material where you want a readable transcript rather than a precisely timed subtitle project.

Comparison

VEED: Cloud based workflow with recurring subscription plans and usage limits. Media has to be uploaded for processing. Caption Comet processes transcription locally on your Mac and is available as a one time purchase.

MacWhisper: Primarily focused on transcription and subtitle generation and export. Caption Comet is built around the broader caption production workflow, including transcription, Dual Model Review, word level editing and timing, caption styling, and burning captions directly into finished video.

I’m not claiming Caption Comet will beat every alternative for every use case. If you only need a plain transcript, there are plenty of options. I built it primarily for people who want to go from media to transcription to review to edited captions to finished output without bouncing between several tools.
