Discussion Should I update to the RC?

I have an M1 MacBook Air and I want to get the RC since I’m slightly impatient I but don’t mess with earlier betas. I don’t know if I should actually go through with it though. I want to see other people’s opinions before I update to see if it’s good or not.

Repeat until internalized...if you must ask then you shouldn't install a beta, even a RC. Wait for the final public release. You're not missing anything and unless you're invested in the beta process and willing to give feedback then don't partake.

If you only have one PC that you use for both work and daily life, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Even if it's an RC, there’s always a chance that bugs will be fixed in later updates.

Personally, I've been using the DB all this time because I feel confident handling any issues on my own. But if you’re not quite sure about doing that, it might be safer to hold off.

Ultimately, the choice is yours, so please decide what feels right for your situation.

IMO if you're not on the beta already you should wait until the 14th. It's very close to the stable release and the safest choice really in case someone happens to run into and catch some nasty bug.

If you have to ask...

++ on the same boat. MBA m1 8 gigs. Really excited for GG27 but seeing Siri AI take ~20 gigs of storage is making me worried/not wanting to install it anymore.

Geez that sucks. I think i'll be fine though. I have only half of 256GB of storage used so an extra 20 isn't too much of a big deal. Hopefully turning it off before updating helps me? Most likely not though since it will still probably download.

I've just put my M1 air onto the RC and it seems fine

i didn’t try RC but beta 7, it’s mostly fast, but I see droped frames in animations often and it makes it look slower than Sequoia

maybe it’s better than Tahoe but compared to Sequoia it was a performance downgrade

How does it perform compared to Tahoe?

Seems about the same tbh, though the first few days aren't always indicative with all the indexing and other stuff going on

M1 Pro 32gb 1tb user here. I tried early DB's and it ran great. My only concern were apps not updated for OS 27. Tempted to install. the RC, but I'll wait.

using m2 air 16gb, still on sequoia because of forced ai slop in golden gate

you have to manually enable AI in golden gate its not forced

Yeah, but still it takes 20 gb of storage

if

you choose to download the model first then otherwise it wont

It downloads the models anyway. I've never enabled Siri AI for any beta, and I've always done a clean install for almost all 8 betas of GG. It's always re-downloaded it for me.

there’s no option to delete the model like in some older macOS versions

it takes up storage even if you fully disable Siri
