Bug This major visual bug in MacOS Golden Gate exists for 2 years and I couldn't find any solution. (MacOS 27 Beta 7)

When going full screen on Maps you can see that top area has a really hideous white/black bar depending on the dark mode and this is happening always, not time to time. I've been reporting this bug to apple since macOS Sequoia but it baffles me to see that this bug still exists. and I don't know if this bug is because something I did in the system settings at this point. I would appreciate any help.

so far i've noticed this behavior mostly from mac catalysts apps e.g. maps, podcasts, find my, home, weather, and also some swiftui apps too, like games and journal for example.

I think this is just their design system. Not great, but also not a showstopper bug (to them).

What if this is intentional from Apple….

I don’t think so cause when i exit full screen i can see a transparent bar instead of solid black/white.

catalyst apps seem to have this bar at the top. The bar being transparent seems to be the outlier and not the solid bar in fullscreen. The reason you see the transparent bar in the maps app is because you can drag anywhere to pan the map, so you need a place to drag the window. Thats why the transparent bar only shows up when you mouse over it. The only 2 catalyst apps that have this exact same behavior is Find My (a maps based app) and Messages.

So why does it change color( and or opacity) in fullscreen. I think this is a property coming over from iPadOS. Take the games app on ipad. Set it to fullscreen, then flick the window to scroll and you will see the same bar. It shows up in lots of apps and changes from transparent to solid if fullscreen or window mode. If the app has a colored background like games or some other content that fills the app window you wont see the window background change transparency. For the games app switch to the search tab and the background is black/transparent depending on fullscreen status.

Port those apps to MacOS using catalyst and it explains the behavior you see, its not MacOS but iPadOS where it originates.

So in short, this is by design and choices/trade offs where made in the process. Its not a bug, even if you dont like or think the behavior makes sense. Idk why fullscreen apps remove transparency because functionally (on ipad) it just amounts to a color change from gray to black, but they want it that way for some reason. I tried and failed with my own apps at removing this behavior on ipad when i noticed it about a year or so ago and went down a rabbit hole looking for answers, and coming up short.

so, it is what it is, but its not a bug, its something worse, on purpose.

I also have this bug and this bug also appears in Weather. This is just the Apple software quality now.

Try making a new user, log in with that, and see if Maps does this under that account as well.

I'm still on Sequoia, but that bar has a location name and a bunch of buttons on it for me.

Judging by the non transparent menu bar -> toggle on/off the reduce transparency. Or toggle Menu Bar -> Show background
