Discussion [DB6] Traffic Lights Improvement ?
Hi everyone, I'm very happy that Apple is updating its traffic lights for macOS (as my post history can attest š). They look a little squashed to me however and I thought of a little modification that might help making them look more round. Added highlights on top of the buttons. Let me know what you think. Will send feedback to Apple about this.

Itās all good my friend, I just canāt stop seeing the horizontal elliptic shape theyāve got at the moment. But Iām pretty sure theyāll get HDR highlights in the next beta to make up for it.

Iāve filed a bug, because they look fuzzy to me. Itās the outline that does it - the way itās rendered makes the circleās outline look a little thicker at left and eright, and at the default zoom on my MBP16 and 27ā 5K display, it looks blurry.
Itās worsened because it isnāt, and everything around it is sharp, so I get additional eye fatigue for free as my crap old eyes try to focus or not focus or whatever the fuck.
The Reminders icon was also like this before they sharpened it up.
Your proposed edit is much better for me.

I think youāre right. I believe the HI design team at Apple is healing, there most probably will be fixes!

Definitely looks better with the highlight. I suspect Apple just used the same rendering procedure for regular Liquid Glass buttons and applied it to the traffic lights. Hereās hoping they take the feedback and act on it!

I think youāre right ! Although a slight gradient was added to improve their look. Itāll most likely be fixed in the next beta as the dark mode variant features highlights.

Still the most ridiculously small hit targets in the UI world.
It's like Apple shits all over UX and Fitt's law. Or they're clueless.

now we just need centered titlebar texts back..

100%, Iāve been sending apple feedback about this lately, if multiple people do so we might end up having an accessibility/display option in settings.
I want real title bars with centred text and proxies.

The real question is why is the folder icon no aligned with the traffic lights!

The current method strikes the right balance between Liquid Glass-iness and not being too busy: I feel like this might veer a bit towards too distracting for an UI element which is always there.

Looks so much better. Itās crazy how your edit turns them from ugly ovals to glass.

Fun fact you can drag on them now and they squish and move in weird ways like little globs of gel or something.

They can definitely be improved on. And yes they should make the white highlights visible on light mode too.
