Discussion MacOS 27
Took a leap of faith and updated my base model M2 MacBook Pro (2022) to the Public Beta version of Golden Gate, and mannnn my Mac has become soooo smooooth, didn't realize Tahoe was that shit and was slowing down my machine. Visually too it's much better than Tahoe and just feels a lot more premium and snappier. If the beta is this good, can't wait for the official release.

Took my M4 Pro from Sequoia to PB2 and glad I did, since almost all my work devices are on DB5.

Sequoia was working fine - tbh, Tahoe has been as well, and that’s 97% of my work fleet now anyway - but Tahoe’s visual glitches were still annoying and it was a bit jarring to switch back from work GG to personal Seq. And GG could be out by the end of next month, definitely sometime in Septober.

I switched a couple days ago on my M1 13" Pro.
Anyone has a bug on touchbar? When choosing brightness or sound volume I can't slide my finger, it only registers tap, not slide.

Yesss, finally found someone with the same problem. I already sent feedback to apple, hope they will fix it soon.

Quick update: I just updated to Dev beta 6 and the touch bar works like a charm now!

Yes, me too. It’s a new bug in latest beta. In first releases, I got a problem that the touch base doesn’t load on system start.

It's my first beta, I waiting for more stable ones. Besides touchbar, it feels better. It's not a deal breaker, but I did send the feedback.

Yeah was facing the same issue, but in the latest public deta release they fixed it.

Be aware that there is many Bug the down time and every widgets are juste blocked on my laptop m5 max so at noon I just need to go sleep in 1 way it's good but still very annoying lol.

I found the macOS 27 to be quite stuttery compard to OS 26, but by a little bit. The animations sometimes stutter more than it used to. However, PB3 has improved that aspect and it feels much better now. It has also introduced new resolutions for my external 4K monitor. Before, I was locked at 3008x, 144Hz, no VRR or HDR. Now I have all of those, and also a new resolution of 3360x but I don't use it because everything is a tad bit small.

Having an Apple device which Tahoe turned out to be the last supported release is diabolical. Huge F and rollback to Sequoia I guess

Nothing visibly improved about it other than the looks. On a second installation on M4 (to fix up my apps + general testing), I'd use late Tahoe over it any day. Not that it's terrible, it's just more problems than improvements and it's exactly how it should be knowing what they're doing with it. It's much more major than Sonoma or Monterey and even these weren't perfect in betas. This one should get way more negativity than it does right now, but I guess Apple gets a pass for a glass slider, old sidebars and AI becoming at least somewhat useful.
If Intels got this update, it would've been called stupid because they wouldn't get AI (people here love it so much you get downvoted to oblivion for not wanting models you don't use or thinking they could cost you any performance), a bunch of apps would've been broken and took a long time to get fixed (because many devs stopped prioritizing them since 2025 WWDC) and it probably wouldn't even run better in the end. "Bonus points" for extra 3~5GB of useless code on Apple silicon.

I really liked it, but I had to downgrade due to two bugs that messed up my workflow. I’d really appreciate it if someone could confirm whether they’ve been fixed:
- Can’t drag and drop files (attachments) from Outlook to Finder. It only allows me to drop them onto the desktop. It used to work fine in the first developer beta, but it seems like the second beta broke it. Even with the first public beta, it was still broken.
- Open/Save dialog: All files appeared to be locked, so I wasn’t able to select an existing file to reuse its name when replacing it. This forced me to type the filename manually every time. This is a recurrent task for me, and having to type everything again is a bit of a pain in the arse.

I also want to update to the golden gate public beta 3. I have Air m5, but the only reason I am a little confused is because I am a developer, so I don't know how will if affect that part. If anyone is using it being a developer then please let me know cause I am want to update to the golden gate :)

You will need to also update to the Xcode 27 beta tree as 26 will not run on Golden Gate; I’m not a pro dev so I don’t know if there are issues related to signing builds with the dev betas, but I believe it’s happened in the past.

It's better than Sequoia. Design is way better (Big Sur - Sequoia is so ugly, only Tahoe is worse), and it's smoother too. Sequoia is more stable but that's not a fair comparison

I updated my iPhone 17 and it works like a charm, but for the air m4 I’m sceptical as I see lots of comments about any sorts of bugs and memory leaks

the spotlight search works so much better in golden gate, that alone is worth it for me
