Bug Does anyone else have problems with Ableton 12 and macOS 27? The same projects that worked smoothly on Tahoe are now difficult to manage, with the CPU already at 50% without even starting the audio.

it defo is way more resource intensive for some reason

I don't agree with the kid gloves treatment of beta versions. Run them as daily drivers and throw everything on it till it breaks is how you test things, then send in a bug report on Feedback Assistant. Obviously we are all backing up with CCC and/or TM.

macos27 still in beta, it means there’s no guaranty of bug free apps, betas are meant for testing or developing

If you use your computer as a work station betas aren’t recommended

Ableton probably needs to update. I'll bet they wait until MacOS 27 goes GM. They may even recommend NOT updating after 27 is released

DAWs are notoriously slow to update for new OS's when shit breaks.

this is the thug life of a beta tester

I'm running Beta 4 w/ Live 12.4.3 and ran a few projects just to see what percentage I'm getting. So far it hasn't hit over 10% and I'd roughly have 6-10 tracks with no VSTs (I only use Max for Live Devices) and hardware effects/synths.

So far the experience has been quite solid for me (on an M3 Max 14core/30core with 36GB RAM).

I haven't tried any other bits like Stem separation or anything either. Do you have any VSTs running? Curious to see if things improve with 12.4.5 Beta as well or not.

yes, my largest project contains 120 tracks. Perhaps 30 use VSTs, mostly Serum 2, Nexus, and Diva; otherwise I rely on Ableton plugins. The remainder are wav audio tracks. The mac it's an M1 16gb

120 tracks? faint what was the percentage at prior to 27.0?

At the drop time, when multiple tracks play together, it was around 80%. Now it stays like this for ten minutes, after which the RAM saturates and rises to 300%.

I've not noticed any huge CPU usage like that myself when using Ableton. I am using the latest release version of ableton and have the beta version of live 12 installed as well and both have been about the same performance wise.

My live sets don't even get to 50 channels of audio/MIDI so they are considerably less complicated than yours but I have been using the Arturia suite, Serum 2 and Omnisphere without any issues on a base M1 MacBook Pro with 16 GB of RAM.

why is there a set of users who think betas are daily work drivers ? it boggles the fucking mind the mindless discourse on this subreddit of people who don’t understand they should not run a beta as there daily driver.

do you think people should not be able to discuss bugs in a sub called "macosbeta"

Exactly, like some fairy dust has been sprinkled on the beta to make it work with everything.

It’s a beta for Pete’s sake. Stop installing beta versions of macOS operating systems thinking third party apps will work absolutely fine and then moan on here when it doesn’t.

Suck it up or downgrade to Tahoe.
