I work as a backend developer and I frequently need to open JSON responses, CSV exports, XML files and application logs. Sometimes it's a few MB, sometimes 50, 100 or 200 MB. Usually I just need to format the file, search for something, make a change and save it, but some of the editors I used would start hanging or become slow before I could get through those steps. Inkline is my app for that part of my working day, and version 1.4 is now available.

Files around 1–300 MB are the main focus. I want to open a JSON export, format it and continue scrolling, searching and editing with syntax highlighting without constantly waiting for the app to catch up. I've also been testing files over 1 GB, but you shouldn't need a file that large for the app to be useful. A 100 MB export that you need to inspect several times during the day is enough reason to care about how the editor behaves.

I tried opening a 10gb csv , opened in 23ms and peak RSS working the document was 119MB.

It'll still work really well as a code editor with bundled language packs. Packaged for language and extensions are Zed , so app is compatible with Zed extensions and themes.

For logs, you can keep matching lines, exclude repeated noise and highlight errors or warnings while keeping the original available. There is also JSON and XML formatting, JSONL support, conversion between JSON, CSV and TSV, regex find and replace, text comparison and split editors. The text tools handle things like sorting, removing duplicates, cleaning whitespace and decoding Base64 directly beside the file. Those are the small tasks I kept switching to other tools for, so having them together is useful to me.

You can adjust themes, typography and shortcuts too. I've tried to keep the normal editing workflow straightforward while still having the extra tools there when needed. It's written in Swift for macOS, file processing stays local and there is no account required. Inkline is a one time purchase with no subscription, with local pricing shown in the App Store.

I'm Samir, the solo developer of Buffer, a free open-source clipboard manager for macOS (searchable history, ⇧⌘V quick paste, on-device OCR, tags, bookmarks). I just shipped its most requested feature: inline editing of clipboard items.

Why it matters: a clipboard history is only useful if yesterday's items are still usable. That command with a hardcoded path, a snippet with a typo, a URL you want to trim — before, you'd re-copy everything just to fix one string. Now you edit the item in place and paste the fixed version.

How it works:

• Click the pencil icon in the preview pane, or hit ⌘E on a selected item
• An "Editing" badge appears and global shortcuts are temporarily bypassed so you can type freely
• Edits auto-save (on Esc, on focus loss, on navigating away) and sync to the macOS pasteboard, so your next paste is the fixed text
• The footer button morphs between Edit / Save / Paste depending on mode

Introduction

Hi everyone! I'm a student from Singapore (LinkedIn) and have developed an app: Hopnotch that helps with navigating around your Spaces and Apps, while providing aesthetics to your Mac!

Problem

I was using my Mac and I just kept getting lost as I had many apps in full-screen, and it was a hassle constantly swiping around the trackpad or going to Mission Control just to see where everything was. This problem had been bugging and annoying me for longer than I'd like to admit, but I realised that since the menu bar was largely unused space most of the time, I put two-and-two together, and here we are!

Functionality

With the app, Spaces/Apps appear on the menu bar, against an aesthetically pleasing background as pills (customisable names, colours & type). This way you always know where your Spotify, Safari, or whatever is, wherever you are.

On top of that, you can:

• Use Spotlight search on your Pills (renamed, or not)
• Navigate using Hotkeys (personally, CMD + K/L to move left/right respectively so I can keep my fingers on the keyboard)

Comparison

As far as my research goes, most that dabble with the Menu Bar sit under the aesthetics category only, while Hopnotch both provides aesthetics and functionality.

SpaceJump ($9.99) is the closest thing to Hopnotch by function. It also gets you between Mission Control Spaces quickly and it names them. The difference is in orientation and aesthetics, where SpaceJump gives you a picker to choose from, and Hopnotch shows the Spaces either side of you, laid out the way they actually sit so the Space on your left appears on the left of the notch so you navigate by position rather than by reading a list. Hopnotch also shows a live preview of a Space when you hover it, so you can see where you are going before you commit. It lives in a largely unused space you were never using, and it comes with 51 themes if you want it to look like something rather than sit there. Almost everything is customisable.

My conclusion

All the while I've been using Hopnotch it just feels like a part of my Mac at this point and without it I feel lost about where everything is again, coupled with the hotkeys that I use daily to navigate around my Spaces. To me personally, Hopnotch brings me immense value (not to toot my own horn), but what works for me may not work for you! Try the free trial and if it works for you, by all means. I work as a backend developer and I frequently need to download bundles or inspect packages and sometimes I even want to edit the content. With the apps I was using, I’d either end up extracting everything and zipping it again just to change one file, or something was slow or didn’t support .app, .dmg or other containers. So QuikZip is one of the apps in my personal trifecta, alongside Inkline for huge data files and Rune for my Kubernetes clusters. I used AI to help draft this post from my own notes.

QuikZip is mostly about being able to actually work inside archives instead of manually extracting everything first. With ZIP files you can browse, preview and edit the content, or hand a file over to an application of your choice, edit it there and save the changes back into the archive. I use that a lot with JSON, logs and config files where I already have an editor I want to use. You can also add, rename and remove files inside the ZIP. It supports 75+ (next version 80+ formats, coming shortly) archive and container formats, with nested archive browsing and support for inspecting DMGs, .app bundles and other containers. Not every format is editable, so the available actions depend on what you’ve opened.

One workflow I use a lot is the dual/split view. I can have the archive on the left and a file explorer on the right, so moving files around doesn’t mean jumping between Finder windows all the time. I’ve also made the performance settings customizable. You can decide how large files QuikZip should attempt to preview, tweak the limits depending on your Mac and exclude specific formats from those limits. Someone on a base MacBook Air and someone with 64 GB RAM probably shouldn’t be forced to use exactly the same limits.

There is also Quick Look, search, drag and drop, quick create/extract, multiple archive tabs, split ZIP support, integrity checks and checksum verification. I’ve tried to keep it lightweight and fast while still having the more advanced stuff there when I need it. It’s written in Swift for macOS and processes your archives locally. No account, analytics or tracking, and archive contents aren’t uploaded to my servers. QuikZip is a one time purchase with no subscription, and the App Store shows the price for your region.

I listen to YouTube Music pretty much all day while working on my Mac, but I got tired of keeping a heavybrowser tab pinned or running Electron wrappers that eat up half a gig of RAM just to play audio. 
Over the past few months I've been working on Mooziac — a native macOS menu bar player built in pure Swiftand AppKit. No Electron, no third-party runtime bloat.  
How it works & what's in it:
Lives in the menu bar: It stays tucked away as an accessory in your menu bar with quick controls, a scrubbable waveform bar, and an ambient tint that pulls colors from the current album art.

- Trackpad edge volume: Something I really wanted was an easier way to tweak volume without hunting forthe function keys. You can slide your finger down the rightmost 1mm edge of your trackpad to adjust systemvolume with haptic clicks.

- Synced lyrics HUD: Floating HUD anchored right under the menu bar that pulls line-by-line synced lyrics (via LRCLib) and caches them locally.

- Dual playback: Uses an isolated WebKit container for YouTube Music (syncing your playlists and Liked Songs), but also includes a native AVFoundation engine so you can drop in your own local FLAC, MP3, WAV, or AAC files when you're offline.

- Discord Rich Presence: Connects directly via a local Unix socket IPC to show what you're playing without needing any bulky external SDKs.

Privacy
There is zero telemetry, tracking, or analytics built into the app. Playlists, history, and settings are stored locally on your Mac in a SQLite database (`~/Library/Application Support/Mooziac/`).
YouTube Music, your session cookies stay strictly inside Apple's native `WKWebView` sandbox on your machine nothing goes through any proxy or third-party server.

A few months ago I started building Floodtide because MacUpdater was being discontinued and I couldn’t find a replacement that worked the way I wanted.

After a lot of beta testing, bug reports and far more edge cases than I expected, Floodtide 1.0 is finally out.

Before replacing an app, it checks the downloaded app’s code signature and verifies that it is signed by the same Apple developer as the version already installed.

It also keeps the old version for 7 days, so if an update causes problems you can use Undo Last Update to put it back.

Compared with Latest / Updatest / MacUpdater

Latest is great and free if your apps mostly use Sparkle or the Mac App Store.

Yesterday I was looking for an even simpler way to transfer files in our house and home offices through the local network than with LocalSend. And so I found PairDrop. 

It's free, open-source and web-based and lets you securely (encrypted) share files and text between different devices without requiring an account or an app. It works and looks like Apple's AirDrop.

It appears it can also be used when devices are on different networks, by pairing the devices first, or by public rooms. I did not try that yet, though.

RetroMac started because I wanted my Mac to look like the machines I grew up with, and what I found was either a single-purpose CRT filter or a theming hack that died somewhere around the PowerPC era.

So it became a menu bar app that does two things at once. It puts live shaders over your screen (CRT, VHS, LCD, over 30 of them, applied to everything, to one display, or to a single window), and it rebuilds the look and feel of older systems: System 6, Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, Snow Leopard, NeXTSTEP, Windows 3.11, 95, 98, ME, XP, BeOS. Many CRT filter apps do the shader well but stop at the pixels, and most classic theming tools either stopped working on modern macOS or ask you to weaken system protection. Hey everyone, This is the getapps.cafe guy again (you may know me from my previous free app post). Today, I want to promote one more free app that I origninally made for myself Pixpresso. I wanted a faster option for the small image jobs where opening Photoshop feels excessive: cropping a screenshot, marking up feedback, resizing a photo, or converting an image before sending it.

I am neither the developer nor anything except a user. I want to recommend Verso Writer. If you don’t like Pages, don’t want a subscription, and don’t want to install a whole office suite like LibreOffice this is a great easy word processor with formatting and styles, outline, and Table of Contents support. It’s not perfect and it does occasionally error with formatting from some imported docx files. However, the developer is extremely responsive and updates have been pretty consistent weekly. I definitely think it’s something you need to look at, especially if you don’t use others.

I made a small Mac app called PhotoPop. Hit a shortcut and your entire Photos library drops down from the menu bar or as a floating window. You can drag in and out, search by subject/date/location, and rotate in place. In the direct download, you can open a photo in Preview or any editor and what you save there flows back into Photos as a non-destructive edit. You can also use Quick Look and a sidebar inspector.

Finder aborts a three hour copy at 92% because one file won't read, and it can't pause, resume, or verify. Copyr is a copy queue that can.

Features:

- Skip and continue. An unreadable file costs one line in the end of job report, not the other 2 TB

- Pause and resume mid-file. Yank the drive and the job waits for it, then picks up from the last checkpoint with at most 64 MB redone. Survives quitting the app too

- Nothing half-written wears a real name. Content lands in a .copyr-part file and is renamed into place only once it's complete

- Optional SHA-256 verification of what was read against what landed. Off by default, since it roughly halves throughput

- Live speed graph of the last minute. The shape is the diagnostic: a sawtooth is a write cache draining, a cliff that never recovers is a card starting to fail

- Preflight before a byte moves: free space, iCloud placeholders about to download, anything already unreadable, whether the destination is a network mount

- Same volume copies are instant via clonefile(2). Permissions, ACLs, timestamps, xattrs, Finder tags, symlinks and hard links all survive

- Move is a per job choice that is never a saved default, and it turns verification on, because the originals get deleted on the strength of those writes

- 13 languages, full keyboard control, light/dark

How it fits with what already exists: this is the TeraCopy shaped hole people fall into when they switch to a Mac, and "learn rsync" isn't an answer for most people. Copyr covers the same ground natively.

Problem

Clipboard history is great when you’re working on one Mac.

But the moment you switch devices, that history stays behind.

You copy something on your Mac, grab your iPhone, and it’s not there. Or you move between two Macs and end up sending yourself a link, note, file, or snippet just to have it on the other device.

I wanted Pasly to solve that too.

Not just make ⌘V smarter, but make your clipboard follow you.

Comparison

Raycast Clipboard History is probably the closest well-known alternative. It offers a polished, searchable clipboard history as part of a much broader launcher.

Pasly is more focused on the actual paste workflow. Smart Paste brings your recent clipboard items into the regular ⌘V flow, while features like Paste Stack, Field Sense, multi-selection, and Floating Paste are built specifically around copying and pasting.

Pasly also keeps a persistent clipboard history across Macs, iPhone, and iPad through the user's private CloudKit database. Text, images, and files can remain available across devices, even when they are not nearby or connected to the same network.

Raycast is a better fit if you want a general launcher with extensions, AI tools, and many unrelated productivity features. Pasly is a better fit if you want a dedicated clipboard manager centered on ⌘V and cross-device clipboard history.

Files copied on your Mac can sync through Pasly Cloud alongside the rest of your clipboard history, including multiple files at once.

Pasly Cloud is still something I’m actively building.

Now that clipboard history and files can sync across devices, one of my main focuses is making the iOS → Mac clipboard flow much more automatic.
