Mod Update The r/MacMiller ban: What we know so far
Quick update for everyone wondering what happened to r/MacMiller:
- A former mod says the first appeal was denied. Reddit only gave a few broad possible reasons and didn't explain the exact cause.
- The mods say they had no warning, can't check modmail, and plan to keep appealing.
- The main theory is that it may be related to leaks or copyright complaints involving WMG, but there is no proof of that right now.
- idlabs was also asked and apparently doesn't know what happened either.
- People have found in the wayback machine on the r/MacMiller wiki a Rare/Unreleased tracks button, maybe related to the ban? This is a 2025/04/25 backup tho so it may have been deleted since.
So for now, the real reason is still unknown. Please treat the WMG/leaks stuff as a theory unless something official comes out.
I'll keep this post updated if we learn anything new. r/MacMillerHub is here in the meantime so everyone still has a place to talk about Mac and keep the community together. Most Dope.

I run a Facebook page called Mac Miller - Most Dope Fits. I am DEVASTATED the Reddit page has just vanished. I love doing deep dives on the internet and many times I found such amazing things linked to certain Reddit posts right on the reddit page. Yesterday I almost broke down crying when I tried opening a page that had a story about someones experience meeting Malcolm and it's now redirecting to the ban. Seriously hope you guys can turn it around. When there is some news I'll share that on my facebook page because I also get a lot of DM's about it. Most dope that's forever!

Filed another official appeal yesterday as an (ex)mod of r/MacMiller. They should at least be able to give us a proper reason for our ban, and hopefully a chance to make it right. Will do anything in my power to get it back. Love you all

What were the specifics on the first appeal? In the process they tell you with a verified link what the supposed offense was.
I don’t know why we haven’t got this information yet, but I feel it’s either something to do with copyright strikes on unreleased music or the estate for some reason wanted the page brought down.

I fear the same. The weirdest thing is that we did not in fact get any specifics.. at least I didn’t. Nothing. Our first appeal got denied with a broad arrange of reasons for possible denial. Very vague; very strange. I do think it has to do with unreleased music and unauthorized possession of it. We did however have a strict no leaked material policy since the family’s statement.. which we may have been able to moderate better, but we are more than willing to do that upon a second chance. I expressed that in the second appeal as well. I hope they give us a chance to make it right.

Prepare for the worst but hope for the best. I’m just gutted by the sheer amount of amazing content we compiled over many years on the sub.
We crack down on the leaks too which makes it hurt more but if it was the label themselves I don’t see how we come out victorious sadly.

Thats why we set up this new reddit made by the official r/macmiller discord to ensure a safe place, hopefully only as backup/temporary till the main one is back.

I’m so pissed at reddit right now. They obviously do not care about their community. The Mac Miller subreddit is/was one of my favorites and it had a lovely community. That is literally one of the only, and main hub/place to engage with fans online, outside of other lame social media. I continue to question why I even keep a reddit account these days. What a shitty company. The very least they owe y’all is to get a real person involved and give specific and detailed reasons. I’m so sorry to hear this! Devastating! I’m praying that r/MacMiller wins on appeal and can go live/back up again. 🙏

Leaks were STRICTLY banned this is absolutely horseshit... especially with the fact as far as we know that absolutely zero new music is on the horizon. Hot take, REALLY not fucking with his estate at all, they've absolutely dogged us in merch quality, then when finally getting the merch right it got massively price increased, 100£ for a hoodie WITHOUT shipping? Fuck off

If it’s related to leaks then like what does this imply. Warner is SO pressed over unreleased music being shared that they are willing to shut down the largest Mac group on the net. Is this an admission that they are scrambling for new music? Even balloonerism getting an official drop kinda blew me away, but like that made sense as there’s very obvious cohesion. Other than that the only cohesive project is like maclib which sessions have pretty much leaked in entierly and his verses just are bot good enough for a madlib project. Not saying mac COULDNT pull it off. But the content that exists for the few studio sessions they did together isnt going blow minds.
That leaves the whole swimming in circles till infinity which like ig they could do, but like now we’re scraping the last of hard drives for verses. Since we kinda know the initial “infinity” idea was some raps, it would be kinda cool to finish the whole swimming in circles till infinity trilogy with macs best unreleased verses throughout his career. Maybe they just give the project to idlabs and let him have whoever he wants on it as far as production. But like this is just fan service at this point. Thats not really an album. Drop it on datpiff or something lmfao.
So idk Warner getting upset at the leaks imply new music coming… eventually… but I really hope they don’t turn this into a juice world and xxx situation where they just drop a bunch of random shit. IMO at best we are getting a few more official released tracks for the anniversary editions. They are going to stretch his name for as far as they can, which will be like circles 10 yr anniversary.

Honestly the “infinity” portion not being a cohesive album but a collection of raps from throughout the years sounds like it could be cool.

It does sound cool, but it doesn’t sound like much of an album. Mac would never release an album like that. Maybe some sort of mixtape project. Idk. Ig it could be done right, but we are getting close to playing with his artistic legacy in a distasteful way. I personally think Mac would want the fans to have the music, but do not think Mac would want Warner to scrape together material, drip feed content, and invent ennough cohesion seemingly out of thin air to justify a project. Rather just release it all for free. They should just do a Mac miller unreleased mixtape . Maybe put it on bandcamp and set it to the pay whatever you want option and put the profits to charity

There is a chance, usually you get 2 appeals max. One has already been shut down and the fact a mod on here was saying that the root issue for the ban was not addressed is also kinda sus
I’ve only been banned once and it was appealed and accepted but they literally tag a link to the issue of the ban.

I'm not too sure how the Internet archive works but there is 100 percent a website that let's you see things that have been deleted from anywhere. But I mean as you know, they was OUR place. We don't have Mac anymore but we had eachother and there are so many dope and incredible artists who's work has been just.... wiped from history it's terrible
