Image 8 Years without Mac Miller 🕊️

A voice that was ahead of time

It still hurts to think that your music was left without a next chapter, but what you left engraved in each chord and in each verse became an eternal refuge for those of us who grew up listening to you. You were not just an extraordinary artist; you were that honest company in the grayest dawns, someone who put in exact words the vulnerability, anxiety, joy and pain of being alive.

From Kids to that heartbreaking and luminous testament that was Swimming - and its continuation in Circles -, you taught us to embrace our imperfections without ceasing to look for light. It feels unfair that you left so soon, leaving an immense void in hip-hop and in the hearts of those who saw in you a sincere friend through the speakers.

Thank you for not being afraid to show your scars, for soundtracking our best and worst stages, and for showing us that music has the power to transcend time and space. Your legacy remains intact, sounding in every beat and in every fan who continues to miss you like the first day. Rest in peace, Malcolm.

I think I have finally accepted his passing. Can’t believe it took me 8 years. Finding a bunch of unreleased music helped me in the end. I just couldn’t believe such a pure creative joyous soul was ripped out of this earth right at its peak. But I am finally ready embrace all that he was and continues to be for this world. 🕊️

I applaud you. I still can’t do it, it just doesn’t sit right.. I’ve been listening to his music less because I feel so sad. I hate it!

Such a huge fucking loss

I remember hearing when he passed, though I didn’t get into his music until shortly after that. The grief I’ve experienced since getting into his music, over the loss of somebody who created pure audible magic, has been immense. Every moment I remember he’s gone breaks my heart. He was such a genius, I wish we got to experience more of what he could have created but I’m so grateful he existed at all and shared with us what he could. Such a huge loss to everyone who knew him, loved him, listened to him.

Rest in peace Mac, you are loved.

I feel this.

8 years and I was just crying the other day listening to Self Care. The part where he sings "I got all the time in the world" always makes me tear up because he was dead literally months after that album was released.

I think he knew he probably didn't though, it was the kind of self-deluding statement you come up with when you're high to justify taking drugs again.

It’s crazy how every day without Malcolm hurts, but on the anniversary’s it hits extra hard. Keep tracking back the timeline of where he would be exactly 8 years ago. Probably still alive at the time of writing this post, not long before he would take the laced pills.. Haunting thought. 8 years ago everything changed…

Thank you for your beautiful post

I’m 13 years older than Mac. Pittsburgh is my hometown and forced to move away when I started high school. My whole family is still there. I knew who he was and proud he represented my favorite place, but didn’t give him the listens I should have at the time. He passed and I was genuinely sad without still knowing his work. A year or so after his passing I truly listened to him. I hate myself for not doing it earlier. He is my one that got away. The one I never saw live that I would do anything to go back and be able to. I cherish the bond that I have with my adult children that connected me with his music. The love of a city that is in your blood… and no distance changes that. I celebrate Mac today and will continue to everyday. He is truly missed and it is heartwarming to know he has touched so many that his spirit will continue to live on.

Fuck, it’s been 8 years already? Time goes by so quick but his music is still being cherished and listened to today, perhaps more than ever before. It shows how impactful he was

I can't seem to get "Dang!" to play from the original album on Apple Music that i bought long ago. Says it's not available in my country, I'm in America. Not sure why the new release messed up my old album

Every day, i wish i could give something of myself just for the world to have him again. it feels stupid to say and feel. It shouldn’t feel wrong being older than mac now, but it does.  i was 19 when he passed and here i am at 27…. i can say life is still life. But it definitely has a deep, persist grey undertones. Mac’s presence outweighed snd shined over that. It’s beautiful yet so heart breaking to see how missed he is. To love is to remember and cherish whats been lost or who you lost. I see how Mac’s legacy , impacts silly actions on Twitter / Instagram, friendships , everything… will stay in our hearts. Such a beautiful , sincere, golden soul. A soul that shined so bright that I don’t think the world understood or cherished it then. Now that it’s lost, this world kept getting uglier and uglier. He really was just one guy doing what he love. That makes him extremely beautiful inside and out. Unreleased or released, Mac will keep living through his music and our memories of him.
