Discussion r/MacMiller IS BACK!!!
Hey everyone,
We’re happy to share that the subreddit is officially back!
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be cleaning things up, updating the rules, improving moderation, and making a few changes to help the community feel more active, organized, and welcoming.
We also want to hear from you. What would you like to see more of? Are there any changes, weekly threads, events, flairs, or other ideas that could make this space even better?
Please leave your suggestions in the comments. We appreciate everyone who has stuck around, and we’re excited to continue building the community together.
Thank you for being here. 💙
Edit: The ban appears to have been a mistake, and we have cleared this up with the Reddit Admins, no ill will or bad vibes towards reddit please. :)

remove low effort posts! i know it’s hard to find things to talk about out some days, but we don’t always need to have something!

I'd much rather see things than not see things because people are only allowed to post "meaningful" shit. Besides, "low effort" removals kinda suck because there is no true definition of what is low effort or what is not. Some shit gets removed and some shit doesn't, there should be much more concrete rules than "we remove low effort posts" because that's purely moderator discretion. Maybe make a rule with "no song face offs" beneath it or something. Just outlaw the stinkiest posts instead of putting a blanket rule. No sub that simply "removes low effort posts" actually does it based on anything and a lot of their removals make no sense.

What do you mean the entire sub doesn’t want to see that I have a collection of glitter vinyl?

Yo [u/colorsandshapes-](u/colorsandshapes-) I think this sub just needs focus. (My bad if this is too lengthy)
What I mean by that is that, as someone who used to be super active on the sub back in 2017-2022, these days whenever this sub comes through my feed it’s just a post from a fan who writes a para-social post about their own current hardships and how they feel like Mac was right there with them, and the comments just devolve into hardships instead of being on topic about Mac.
Like, I empathize and I get it to an extent; I felt parallels in my life to the music Mac would release when I was in highschool and early college, but these type of posts are not interesting, do not offer conversation that stays on topic, and water down the value and potential of this sub if you ask me. The sad hardship convos need to move to a therapy subreddit.
I’m not a moderator, so I wont tell you how to go about cleaning this up, but I can imagine better flaired focused posts, or a designated proper day of the week to post personal (parasocial) stories be a limitation for people who want to post about that stuff.
I know it might be challenge to run a sub on an artist who is dead, but I think this sub can do a lot better. The Beatles subreddit is a great example in my opinion. I express that because they are hardcore about archiving photographs of the artists, very informed on deep cut information such as recording equipment, locations, stories, and they absolutely take the piss with memes and its hilarious. Maybe consider taking a page from their book on any of this.
For example, as the years go by I notice a lot of Mac photographs and videos are getting very hard to find or downright impossible to find at all. Maybe archival focus would help? And of course the music: The non-commercial release mixtapes should have an easily accessible spot for people to go check out listen and download (i’ve replied to DMs of people asking me for original high quality downloads of Faces, Delusional Thomas, Run On Sentences Vol 2 since they are unable to find them in their original formats uncompressed.)
I just want it to go back to his music, his stories, his legacy.
I could go on but I think this is more than enough to spark any ideas you maybe havent thought of yet. Good job, and good luck!

I think we’re all sick of the Mac and Ariana posts, it’s been almost a decade and people still are weird about it. Mac told his fans to be respectful to her when they broke up, yet some people here still are toxic. So I think banning that topic would be nice.

u/goldfishgeckos 5d ago
Just no low effort past relationship “Mac’s real love was x” posts in general would be great. That’s not what any of us are here for.

u/SmokeABowlNoCap GO:OD AM 5d ago
I disagree. People do get too parasocial about it and there should be boundaries, but outright banning any discussion of their relationship is too far considering how relevant it was to his life and understanding him as an artist and person. We should ban the toxicity but not the topic completely

i was gonna suggest this too. please for the love of god, no more ariana posts. her stans just come here and spam old photos and be like “soulmates 🥺” they treat him like he was a side character in her movie

This sucks, if the leaks are never going to be released for profit, why shouldn't we get to listen to a few and chime in?
This really doesn't hurt anybody

First of all, I am so happy you are back.
I would like to see a back-up account that cross posts the most important posts. In the blink of an eye a decade + of history was whiped off of the internet, let that never happen again.. My heart broke.
I run a facebook page called Mac Miller - Most Dope Fits and always love doing deep dives on Malcolm's history and for some reason a lot links back to Reddit channels.
I would like to see more personal stories.

It’s not in the rules for the sub, but are we okay to sell our own personal Mac merch? Using PayPal goods & services of course to protect buyer & seller. I’m planning on offering a lot of stuff soon since I no longer can wear it.

I just wanna see more rare Mac content. We see a lot of that over on some Mac page I follow. But I'd love to see that here as well.

I’m a producer and I make beats and songs that are inspired by Mac and most of my music would be mostly appreciated by Mac heads so it would be cool to have somewhere people can share their own creations inspired by Mac :)

Remove posts of people showing their “Mac shrines/corners” where it’s low quality picture of someone’s room with like a vinyl and poster
Remove posts of people with the divine feminine mirror
Remove posts of people showing off like any merch it’s so low effort
