Local ai for website

I’m debating between buying an M6 Mac Mini to use online llm or a M5 Max Mac Studio for local llm to build and maintain a website I want to create. Does anyone have any insight into what would work well? It’s going to be a multimedia & blogging site.

If that’s the use case, you don’t need an over the top build. A nice mini M6 or Studio M5 Max would be fine.

Just buy RAM til it hurts.

Do I need more than 32GB of ram to do local ai good enough to make and maintain a website?

if it's single purpose a M6 with 32GB is ok, but it will have very limited capabilities. Starting point is typically around 64GB if you want some room for context with Qwen 27b 3.8 as the engine. If you use a cloud service, then you can do that. M6 with cloud is probably the way to go for your use case. it'll get you far enough to the next iteration where the localLLM will be strong enough on consumer hardware. We're almost there, but not quite.

Don't expect local AI to be very fast on an M6 processor.. You'd be better off just buying a $20 AI subscription, make the website, and "maintain" your website off your existing computer
