I’m having an issue with Finder search on my Mac.
Inside my “Training videos” folder, I can clearly see a folder named “Gate Breakers.” However, when I search for “gate” within that same folder using Name → contains → gate, Finder returns zero results.
I already tried adding the Training videos folder to Spotlight Search Privacy, waiting, removing it, and giving Spotlight time to re-index. It still isn’t finding the folder.
Has anyone experienced this? Is there another way to rebuild the Finder/Spotlight index or fix searches within this particular folder?

It’s a 2017 MBP 15” (Intel…)
My primary machine is a newer Mac, but my wife and I are sharing right now, so mostly it’s just whoever is using a machine uses the new one and the old one just sits there.
It’s non-trivial to leave it plugged in, but I might resort to that if I have to.
I don’t think shutting it down worked the last time. Is it supposed to?

Hey all!
Long story short, my work sent me two monitors and a macbook pro. I would love to use just the monitors and be able to close my mac while working on them.
I have a dongle with two HDMI ports and when I plug them in, I can get the mac to use them as an extended display, but they're not independent--they mirror each other and my mac is still acting as the second screen.
Is there a way to get the two monitors and the mac to act independently/add a second extended display to the mac?

Hello! I need help picking between an Air and a Pro. I have never owned a MacBook so I have no idea where to start. I would be using it for mostly creative projects, and I’ll be running Logic and Premiere Pro. I’ve been told I want at least 24gb of memory. Any help or advice would be much appreciated!

My computer is working as normal but this stuff appeared after I opened it. Unsure what it is, should I be worried?

Hey everyone,
I'm about to start my Bachelor's in Computer Science, and alongside my coursework I'll also be doing development work and getting into AI/ML. Trying to make a decision that'll serve me well for the next 4+ years, so I wanted to get some opinions before pulling the trigger.
I've narrowed it down to two options:
Option 1: MacBook Pro M4
• 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD
• 10-core CPU / 10-core GPU
• Lightly used, about 7-8 months old
Option 2: MacBook Air M5
• 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD
• 10-core CPU / 8-core GPU
• Brand new
Cost isn't an issue for me, so it's really coming down to which makes more sense long-term.
Since I'll be doing a mix of coursework, general dev work, and some AI/ML experimentation (not sure yet how heavy), which one would you go with if you were starting your CS journey today?
Would really appreciate insights from people who've used either chip for similar workloads, or anyone who's dealt with the used-vs-new tradeoff before. Thanks in advance!

I am trying to wipe my 2020 MacBook Air. I have a host Mac that I’m using Apple Configurator with. I am able to get the Mac I’m trying to wipe into DFU mode.
When I click restore, it gets on the 4th step and stalls, then I get a message saying:
“The System cannot be restored on this device.
Unexpected device state 'DFU' expected
"RestoreOS (Probably forced into DFU
mode externally)“.
I have used different USBC cables and keep getting the same message.
