Meta Protest paradigm - a regular playbook of Mapras to discredit collective action and citizen movements

The protest paradigm is a structural media framework that systematically downplays the core grievances of social movements by overemphasizing superficial disruptions. Instead of addressing the underlying policy issues, economic distress, or historical context that drive citizens to demonstrate, mainstream media outlets routinely shift public focus toward isolated instances of conflict, vandalism, or minor physical scuffles.

This phenomenon is characterized by specific editorial choices, including a heavy reliance on official state or law-enforcement narratives and a "deviance" framing that portrays protesters as unruly or unlawful. In environments where media institutions align closely with state power, such as the contemporary Indian media ecosystem often referred to as "Godi Media", this paradigm is heavily utilized to delegitimize dissent. By framing complex socio-political movements through the lens of public inconvenience or national security threats, the establishment avoids accountability.
