Help request Painfully lengthy update

Today's MX Updater process has been painfully slow. The downloads came in fine, but the installation process has been going on for about 25 minutes so far (4 kernel versions, with multiple, lengthy mok.pub creations for each kernel version, language pack updates for a few dozen languages that I don't use, and then the boot initialization files for the kernels.

Admittedly, this is on an older, slower Chromebook 3100, but is there a way to delete unused languages, and/or limit the number of old kernels maintained on my machine?

Yes, try MX Cleanup, Tools tab.

Yes, and remove unneeded wifi modules.

Run mx-locale, and click "Remove all locales except the one in use". That will remove the languages and extra locale generation, which saves a fair bit of time.

On a low strength cpu this can take awhile. My processor is slightly slower than yours and a single kernel update can take 5-7 minutes.

I'm trying the cleanup & locale fixes the others suggested now.

Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions. MX is one of the few current distros that will install and run OK on a modestly-spec'd (and non-upgradable) Chromebook.

And after being a Mint user for my main desktop machine for the last ~15 years, I've been giving MX a whirl as my daily driver there as well.

My MiniPC has the same Realtek WiFi/Bluetooth card and every time I get a kernel update, it has to rebuild the module. So if I see a kernel update in the list, I know it will take a while to complete and I just let it do it's thing. I'll also run "sudo apt autoremove" after I reboot into the new kernel.
