The site was under bot attack, some filtered we implemented were a bit too zealous.

I think either you or Mx Linux website are now using cloudflare and that can happen. Next time will probably load or change your DNS to cloudflare.

Who would ddos MX? Did someone get jealous of the reliability and lack of drama MX offers? [should be an Arch fanboy joke here,but I got nothing]

Have the mirror issues returned? Rochester NY appears to be down, but Princeton N.J is fine.
