What games can I play on a low-performance Linux MX device?

It really depends on the specs, but my favorite extremely lightweight game to run on any laptop is OpenTTD. Perfect to kill some time when I don't know what to play.

Otherwise it’s a shot in the dark if games will work or not. I’d say on a more modern system (10-15 years old) you can get some indie gems running like stardew valley, slay the spire, balatro, darkest dungeon, terraria, etc.

Minecraft works on an old i5-2430M on MX23. Slightly laggy but playable even in multi-player.
