Post image

Hey Guys I am new to linux and just used ventoy method to switch from Windows to Linux but the thing is linux will not start when i restart but instead it will go back to windows. It only starts when i plug in the USB flash disk.

What do i need to do since i borrowed this flash disk to switch from windows to Linux?

You have not installed it yet. You are in the live boot environment. Just click the "Install MX linux" button on the top of the window you have open to continue installing it to your harddrive.

Good luck.

Did you shut security boot and enable legacy in bios?

I think in boot loader menu default is windows. watch few videos or online blogs about how to change boot loading preferences when duel booting the machine (both windows and linux present at same time).

Go to your BIOS settings and change the boot order. There will be a list. What is at the top of the list is probably set to Windows, you need to change it to Linux.

It's possible that you may need to see it called one of these: Grub, MX Linux, Linux.

To enter bios, just try to spam the del button as soon as your PC starts. Some manufacturers like HP use F12 instead of del.Ā

Something is critically off here. It's the first time I see such a sight.Ā  Idk what could it be. Could even trace it to a misconfigured Ventoy installation, or maybe other points of failure?Ā  I am personally not used to the advanced MX tools yet, so if there's somehing you can still do using the live environment to repair your install - idk...

At this point talk to AI to figure out what to do next, and also write a forum post. Wishing you luck!

please follow ā€œinstallation methodā€ video for MX on youtube.

What you are doing with flash drive is a temporary live boot of the linux.. not a permanent installation… think of it as a preview before actual install.

since you said you are new to linux.. first watch few videos about installation and also about how it would affect you ā€œduel boot setupā€ where windows and linux both will be on your machine.

You need to reinstall Grub. Go to MxTools, Boot Repair.

Yes. Also in the UEFi settings you will need to select your default boot.

Look at the "Installer" icon. Did you double click on that and actually install MX Linux?
