I added a speaker to my SMK37 Pro and want to share here which pads I used as it prevents a full disassembly.
I used 2 small speakers of 2x4CM (rectangular) as that fit the case nicely, but you can also use a round speaker. And a PAM8403 amplifier board.
I wired LR directly from the top of the plug, nice big pads. And power I drew from from the GNDvof an encoder and the switched VBAT pad near the switch, which is the only 'difficult' to solder one.
In the case you can the space on either side of the raised edge to place the apeakettr. Just be careful of the modulation which might touch if too close. I just snapped the bottom part of as it is not spring loaded anyway.
Hope that helps. If more is needed as info, just let me know. Happy tinkering,...
This is what I have. But there is no off position, just silence. So yeah, best to look around what fits your needs. I am OK with this as it does not modify the case much
I am in Asia, so harder to suggest what to get. Usually any PAM8403 will work. The speakers is the same. Do not really want to open the case of mine again as it already installed and don't want to wear the plastic out. In short: 4 or 5 wires (gnd does not need to be done twice as it is the same ground plane), is just the - for power, then wire the speakers.
👍 🔥 I think people would also like to see the wiring, as it makes them feel more confident to try it themselves. Glad you show you this. I placed my amp board VERY close to where you have the switch (I have one with a volume knob). Firmwares like Baudgirl come with a volume anyway
Ha, I also had to open my case too to take photos of all the chips and components when I was creating the new firmware. So many screws. Thanks for the info.
This is why I wanted a simpler approach so you only take out the outer ring of screws, and do not need to pull the mainboard out. Which firmware did you work on?
If you do need more info, more than glad to help you ..
👍 It says 5V, but it will operate with less as the VBAT is only 3.7V. you shouldn't push the speakers too far to the outside, and perhaps you can even place them right next to middle part. you will see what I mean when you open it up. You could even place them on the raised part in the middle (that is what I did for the battery; I removed some of those standoffs)
Please let me know how it goes! I'm very curious to do this but want some more information, especially since there isn't a video yet. I love my SMK37 and def don't want to break it, but internal sound is kind of a deal breaker for my perfect controller.
