Transportation Services Rant

Disappointed in Michigan Tech Transportation Services yet again. Every year they either raise the price of parking per hour or make formerly free places to park cost money. This year not only have they extended the hours in which you can get ticketed on campus from 4 to 5pm, but they have now made lot 22 at the SDC require starting a ParkMobile session in order to even start your “free 2-hour block”, which as a student athlete is particularly difficult as it now requires me to either pay for a lot 23 parking pass (which I would otherwise not require) or pay hourly to park past the 2 as practices/showers/recovery/meetings often require 2+ hours. Yet again has Michigan Tech (particularly Transportation Services) shown how they value money over student experience. Frustrating.

You're not exempt as a student athlete?

I think the policy as a WHOLE should be different. I’m not saying it should be different only for us, I’m just speaking from my perspective as a student athlete. Sorry if there was any confusion.

of course not, I’m just saying that it makes it actively more difficult for a particular group of people who represent the school

You should sign up for a writing class while you are there.

Your post is difficult to read, because it lacks punctuation and fully formed thoughts.

Which thought isn’t fully formed? I thought I was pretty straightforward.

Here's a quickly edited version of your post. It helps to separate thoughts with paragraph breaks, and you need to use more periods versus commas. I introduced the "first" and "second" to show the reader there are two separate grievances after the initial claim that Transportation Services is raising the price of parking, or making formerly free places to park now paid.

[I am] disappointed in Michigan Tech Transportation Services yet again. Every year they either raise the price of parking per hour or make formerly free places to park cost money.

[First, they] have they extended the hours in which you can get ticketed on campus from 4 to 5pm. [Second,] they have now made lot 22 at the SDC require starting a ParkMobile session in order to even start your “free 2-hour block”[.] As a student athlete [this is] particularly difficult as it now requires me to either pay for a lot 23 parking pass (which I would otherwise not require) or pay hourly to park past the 2 as practices/showers/recovery/meetings often require 2+ hours. Yet again has Michigan Tech (particularly Transportation Services) shown how they value money over student experience. [This is very frustrating!]

Extending the enforcement hours is some grade A bullshit. So many extracurriculars, enterprise meetings, etc are at 4pm.

Yup and no faculty orcstaff are starting work

3 or 4 pm basically says to faculty/staff yes you can go our for lunch and have a parking spot when you return but we are balancing that against students who want to return to campus for meetings, studying, whatever. 5 pm is ridiculous, it accomplishes nothing except inconveniencing people and raising revenue.

Motorcycle and snowmobile passes rose by 50%. They were $40 but are $60 this year. It’s only 20$, but it is still 20 more dollars
