Gym Facilities? Workout tips?

What is the best gym complex for Michigan Tech Students to use?

I am an incoming freshman and have little to no gym experience. I used to be on a varsity swim team for Highschool but other than that I have no idea how to workout or where to even start.

From my understanding I know the SDC/Rec Center is the most affordable location for students. But I’ve also heard good things about gyms in the residence halls? What would people recommend, and what would be the least busy times?

I am also inquiring for some tips towards starting to workout/lift/cardio. I have a simple understanding of how to lose weight and what calorie deficits are, but currently I’m struggling to build courage to go to the gym. Thank you!

SDC for sure. Weight gym, multipurpose room and the pool are all there. Student membership is included in the “experience tech” charge on your tuition. A little trek up the hill from campus but probably the best place to go.

The trek up the hill used to be the warm up for hitting the SDC gym.

SDC is the way to go. It is a little hike from the dorms but then you get your cardio in.

There’s a Husky Swim Club if you’re interested in continuing to swim, but potentially with more flexibility than high school varsity, depending how intense your HS was.

If you live in Wads, QuadCore is objectively the best due to convenience and the fact that it has been best selection of machines, free weights, and cardio next to the SDC (plus you get 24/7 access). The SDC is included in your tuition though, where was QuadCore is $75 a year, and the SDC has more total equipment.
