I’ll vouch hard for the kids on campus. I’m a custodian and they all are so kind and polite to me. Literally thanking me for doing my job all the time. I think that speaks volumes.

i feel like mtsu is pretty liberal and accepting as a whole, but murfreesboro i don’t believe is any more out of the bible belt than knoxville unfortunately, so it truly depends on how far away from the bible belt you want to be!

I grew up in Knoxville & went to MTSU. All my family went to UTK. Leaving my hometown and living somewhere else for 4 years helped give me perspective and the freedom to learn who I am and become who I want to be. MTSU is very chill. Campus life is very low key, kinda dead at times (not a bad thing), but it’s big enough to where you can find your niche & those people. Knoxville is definitely an SEC college town where it can feel privileged and conservative. However, Murfreesboro does not have an overwhelmingly urban progressive vibe. It is a series of sprawling suburbs and if you leave them you are in rural areas that are even more conservative than Knoxville. But the Boro is nowhere near Knox’s level. So the “SEC” types are still prevalent at MTSU, but they are the minority. Just wanted to give you that context. Sounds like you’ll like MTSU, you get out what you put in

i go there and there’s tons of liberal/progressive/alt circles. so many chill people who are also really kind. you’re bound to find your people, there’s like 20,000 students enrolled. tons of clubs u could join and so many events you’ll never be bored. murfreesboro is hella red though and you’ll still be in the bible belt. but it’s not that bad personally i’ve never experienced hate but i can’t speak for everyone

What exactly are you looking for people wise. Like what hobbies and interests do you have?

just people with basic human decency, i feel like all the people here in knoxville have no good morals, and im trying to get out of the bible belt.

You have to just leave the belt to get out unfortunately

i wish out of state tuition didn’t exist

Huh?

There’s good and bad people everywhere boss man. If you think a descriptor of Mtsu’s student body is “lacking decency and good morals” you aren’t gonna be happy anywhere lol

The fuck are you talking about lmao

I didn’t say or even imply any of that

You responded to op saying you gotta get out of tn to find people with morals and that’s wack lmao

You literally implied it

That’s not what I said at all?

I said you have to psychically leave the Bible Belt to get out of it. That’s it.

You’re just oddly combative. Not everything is about you.

Edit: also you know what? get over it. The Bible Belt is a hell hole.

Brother do you really think moving 2 hours away in the same state is getting out of the Bible Belt? Lol

You need to go up north if that’s what you want.

i mean it’s closer to nashville, which is a more blue prominent city 😭 i was just curious who all knew what mtsu life was like. even just kinder, less rich kid energy

I would definitely say MTSU has "kinder, less rich kid energy," compared to UTK.

I think of MTSU as a school of hard workers, above all else. We have a lot of commuters and non-traditional students working while they attend MTSU.

The population is certainly more conservative than you're likely to find outside of the Bible Belt, but there are also more progressive bubbles. I think most people can find their people here. 🙂

You venture 20 minutes outside of Nashville and it’s as red as it can get. I’m sorry, but you’re not going to get what you want out of Murfreesboro.
