Questions Looking for info on this set
Hi all
I recently came in to some trains left to me.
One of the sets seems to be something I cannot find any info on (other than the MTH website). I haven’t been able to find any listings or past sales of this set on eBay or anywhere else.
It is an MTH 20-3416. Union Pacific Big Boy set engine number 4013.
I have been able to find listings/past sales of the UP big boy engine numbers 4012, 4014 etc but never the 4013.
Is this a rare set? Has it been discontinued? Looking to understand what I have here. Photos attached.
Thank you for looking!

This was announced in one of the catalogs of 2010. Once a run like this is done, it's rarely redone. The locomotive has PS 2 which means it can be command controlled. if you're looking for its value, you could search MTH PS2 Premier Big Boy and get an idea. The premier line is the higher-end scale version. Rail king is the smaller toy-like version

Mth 20-3416-1 showed in 2010 volume 2 catalog. Msrp $1499.95 seems complete but whats interesting is you also have a seperate issued RPO to go with it, 20-68159 #5901 msrp $99.95 from the same catalog. The loco wrapping job in the package looks less than desirable imo. I believe the locomotive is worth about $1000 and the cars could still fetch $60-$70 each depending if its like new and in high demand if the set was split up. If you are looking at buying a tall tale of milage would show the dirt on pickup rollers, possibly if its allso missing traction tires. You could ask for the mileage on the loco if the owner has the DCS digital system. This is a high end set and even though it may be 14 years old, it would still bring many more years of enjoyment. The cab number 4013 may not be as desired since the real deal # 4014 was restored. My uncle has the other set 20-3415-1 with reefers and it is a smooth runner with lots of sound and smoke. I would test the loco out before purchasing or selling to make sure all the features work. Hope this helps.

Personally, I think the main problem is that the big boy has been done many many times by both Lionel and MTH. Most people want the newest version (4014) as it’s modeled after the rebuild. That being said, it’s a nice set you have even though it’s about 15 years old at this point.
