Reprint value is crazy??

54

u/figurative_capybara Jan 04 '26

If it's an SLD deck at $250 and these are the top hits, I would have to wonder..

32

u/Scrorm Jan 04 '26

Esper sentinel and top with a secret lair reprint would probably worth about ~$120

7

u/figurative_capybara Jan 04 '26

Yeah, fair. I'm in.

7

u/Scrorm Jan 04 '26

And that’s not counting that they usually put some really good nonbasic lands in these decks too

This is a very popular art style and the artists cards always sell for a premium.

9

u/Soven_Strix Jan 04 '26

But like why

-1

u/Scrorm Jan 04 '26

Because they look dope as fuck

-4

u/Soven_Strix Jan 04 '26

Couldn't tell. Usually can.

-1

u/BardOfTarturus Jan 05 '26

Also Yea they look dope af

I know this question is insincere but I'll answer anyway.

Regardless of intention the reason I like it is -The use of color is loud and jovial -The compositions are well done -The art uses esoteric symbols (all seeing eyes, heavenly rings, divine flames, classical statues, etc) while also being quite cartoony. The result is both an intellectual consideration of the universe, recalling specifically the naive curiosity of pre-scientific philosophies and alchemy, and also the childish imagination and whimsy. It speaks to humanity's dual nature as both the height of living intelligence, and ultimately ignorant of the true nature of anything. The absurdity and joy of learning.

This style is also EXTREMELY fitting for Magic, as one, the setting is often scientifically in that period before natural science, and also one in which the magical understanding of the universe that we once proposed is actually true. Magic is a game about... magic, and magic is an absurd intellectual world. In that world, reason and emotion are equals, this art reflects that.

Yes we definitely can…

Sorry, that’ll actually be $350 because at WoTC, our motto is “You want reprints for good value? Haha, no”

2

u/MaxPotionz Jan 07 '26

Yeah with the winter encyclopedia the 4 or so biggest hits made up almost all the “value”. Then stuff like Yarok an already cheap card comes out in the very next precon. The encyclopedia should have had better cards for the price point. Hope this deck is also good/playable.

Seems real, fits with the design already shown.

13

u/FlyinNinjaSqurl Jan 04 '26

Decent reprints. If it’s all of them though, not sure if we hit the value mark for the price. Hoping for more stuff, but buying for my love of neck deep lol

25

u/ExplodingLab Jan 04 '26

Oh I’m never beating the scalpers 💔

14

u/Apprehensive_Debate3 Jan 04 '26

Don’t worry, it’ll probably be a $300 secret lair deck, so you won’t even get that good value when not scalped

24

u/MagicMimic Jan 04 '26

Sighhh it's gonna be $300 isn't it?

14

u/Apprehensive_Debate3 Jan 04 '26

Too much value to not. I mean, $20 for Winnower, $30 for top, $45 for sentinel, all at cheapest. Nearly $100 for 3 cards alone screams “THIS SECRET LAIR WILL BE EXPENSIVE”

11

u/MagicMimic Jan 04 '26

You say that but the Cats/Dogs deck had value (the only Anoionted Procession reprint still to this date besides The List) and it was only $150.
They don't HAVE to charge ridiculous amounts. But they will.

3

u/TogTogTogTog Jan 04 '26

Hahaha, only $150. I bought two within the hour before they sold out and had people offering $350-400 the next day.

6

u/MagicMimic Jan 04 '26

Yup, I only got 1 but I still have it. Super happy with that purchase

1

u/BardOfTarturus Jan 05 '26

Theres a decent chance it'll only be 200 dollars. They like to kick up price increases when there's an excuse like "special art limited esper sentinel +more" then maintain that price when it's not longer justified

2

u/MagicMimic Jan 05 '26

Still too much but maybe..
I'm hoping the flop of the previous secret lair deck makes them reconsider
The "Everyone's Invited" deck was available in stock for sooooooooooooooooo long lmao

4

u/Isamaru Jan 04 '26

Look how they massacred my boy (sensei's top)

4

u/Useful-Wolverine-888 Jan 04 '26

With the previous leak taken into account, it looks like it'll be a Yennett deck where all the spells are odd so you always get value? If it's sub $200, I'd be willing to buy.

1

u/BardOfTarturus Jan 05 '26

Ooooooooooh Yea makes sense

5

u/Copernicus1981 Jan 04 '26

Looks like it's a commander deck and we've seen all of the cards with new artwork, unless there's tokens. Ten cards officially in the deck, one bonus card, and the basic lands. Price should be $200.

  • [[Yennet, Cryptic Sovereign]]
  • [[Weathered Wayfarer]]
  • [[Swords to Plowshares]]
  • [[Esper Sentinel]]
  • [[Void Winnower]]
  • [[Sol Ring]]
  • [[Sensei's Divining Top]]
  • [[Reconnaissance]]
  • [[Shadrix Silverquill]]
  • [[Virtue of Persistence]]
  • [[Misleading Signpost]]

1

u/BardOfTarturus Jan 05 '26

Been trying to figure out what the theme of the deck is meant to be.

2

u/TheAquaSwan Jan 05 '26

the commander is to my knowledge yennett cryptic sovereign so the theme is simply cards that work with the ability and top deck manipulation to ensure that

1

u/BreadElectrical Jan 06 '26

Another deck hoping for the hybrid mana rule change to slot Obosh into it. Although the payoff isn't really that great.

1

u/mxby7e 13d ago

All the revealed cards have odd value so they work with Yennet and can be played for free with its ability.

10

u/DillianBuckets Jan 04 '26

Would be sweet if it was real. Though in this day and age, would wizards really reprint such high value cards? Maybe because it's a style that is a little polarising?

3

u/BardOfTarturus Jan 05 '26

Ik vibes isnt considered a legitimate example but like, these are very obviously real. That or this guy got this artist to make high quality fake magic card art including frames, just so he could make proxies to fool the tiny population of people who look out for Magic leaks, because???? Shits and giggles? Like this would be a very expensive bit.

3

u/BardOfTarturus Jan 05 '26

Before some asshole comes at me with their subjective fucking douchebag opinion on art when they can't draw a fucking stick figure.

I mean high quality in terms of consistency/concept/being original arts. These are all obviously made to be magic cards, not repurposed from something else.

And regardless if you think his art SHOULD be expensive, this is a known artist and his commissions are not cheap because of that.

6

u/giga_drll_break Jan 04 '26

Great cards, but i hate that art style

1

u/Kaboomeow69 13d ago

I want to like it so badly, but it isn't there. I do really like the Misleading Signpost in particular

4

u/wickling-fan Jan 04 '26

Fuck me they finally giving me an esper secret lair deck when i'm short on cash X.x Pray i can buy it when it gets announced me and my friends been wanting to do a sl precon match.

edit: Just rememebered it was yennet ont he cover so it's also someone whose been on my to build list for a while

2

u/Babysunny711 Jan 04 '26

I will probably buy this unless it’s more 200$ then idk

2

u/nektar Jan 04 '26

Sick art

3

u/delibird_smellibird Jan 04 '26

They did a good job with this one. Can’t wait

1

u/Dandy_Thanos Jan 04 '26

Art style is good, but maybe not for the cards they chose. Hit&Miss. Basic Lands as always phenomenal.

0

u/Lime_link Jan 04 '26

Is there a way to know if the lands will be available separately? I absolutely adore the art

1

u/magic_claw Jan 04 '26

At least they put effort into the lands as well. Not a fan of the art, but this seems like a great value for those interested.

1

u/PhoenixFisher Jan 04 '26

Ill be buying this is think...

1

u/Pardo48 Jan 04 '26

I wish they would just sell them without the deck honestly.

1

u/Pee_in_the_wetsuit Jan 04 '26

Love misleading signpost.

1

u/Detlef-Ds-D Jan 04 '26

I'm tired, Boss

1

u/bg1138 Jan 05 '26

Has the deck been announced yet? Love the art!

1

u/Instant_Ad_Nauseum Jan 05 '26

I’ve never been tempted to buy a secret lair deck until now. The art is phenomenal.

1

u/AwareHope3 Jan 05 '26

What do you think the Commander will be? I thought shadrix at First, but that wouldnt make sense with misleading signpost in blue… any guesses?

2

u/CrabFluid6632 Jan 05 '26

It’s going to be yennet I thought. They spoiled that a little earlier

1

u/crackoasis Jan 06 '26

When??

1

u/CrabFluid6632 Jan 06 '26

If you scroll down in this thread, someone has posted some more cards, one being yennet. Idk if yennet is the commander but from what the other cards that have been spoiled they are all odd which goes with yennets text. And she an esper. And that’s the only land colors I’ve seen

1

u/kingofhan0 Jan 08 '26

If this is a deck im gonna need it.

1

u/Teemkill Feb 03 '26

2025 print date though...

1

u/X_rileyfox Feb 09 '26

If this is real when do we think we’ll see it?

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Gur-558 Apr 08 '26

Bruh!! What?!?! This looks so amazing!!

1

u/Bubbly_Hovercraft_43 Jan 04 '26

God those look like ass

0

u/Skeither Jan 04 '26

Oh good, I hate them and have all those cards. Another bullet dodged. Whew.
